Help Needed: Bricked First Pixel 8 Pro During IODE Installation – Afraid to Brick Second Device

I recently faced a critical issue while flashing IODE OS on my previous phone, which is now completely unresponsive. I’m hoping for guidance to avoid repeating the same problem with my new phone (Pixel 8 Pro 1TB).

What Happened to My First Phone:

  • I used the IODE installer to flash the OS.
  • The installer rebooted the device 3-4 times.
  • During installation, the logs displayed “Waiting for device”, and the phone screen showed options like “Reboot in Fast Mode” and “Bootloader.”
  • I chose Fastboot Mode.
  • After this, the device restarted a few times, displaying the Google logo, and then became entirely unresponsive.
  • Now, it only appears as COM Port 9 in the Device Manager, and there’s no display or response at all. The battery was fully charged at the start.

Current Situation with My New Phone:

  • I now have a Pixel 8 Pro (1TB) and am carefully following the manual instructions on the IODE website.
  • However, during the installation process, the installer again gets stuck on “Waiting for device”, and the phone shows the same screen with Fastboot options.
  • I am really nervous about continuing and potentially bricking this device too.-

Key Concerns:

  1. Why does the installer stop and show “Waiting for device” repeatedly?
  2. What’s the correct action when the phone shows options like “Reboot in Fast Mode” and “Bootloader”?

I have screenshots of the process and logs for reference if needed. Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated—I don’t want to risk bricking this phone as well.

first, I’d try to recover the unresponsive Pixel.
as long as the bootloader isn’t messed up (which it definitely shouldn’t be), you just have to use the button combo to enter fastboot mode:

once there, you should be able to follow these steps to install iodeOS:

as long as you can enter fastboot mode, you can always flash back to stock:

flash.android.com

I recovered the device from flash.android.com and started flashing again. However, I’ve tried more than five times, and it always gets stuck at the same point. When I check for fastboot devices at that time, nothing is showing, and the phone screen is stuck. i waited for almost 1 hour

I suspect the USB connection might be dropping, but I’ve already tried changing computers and using multiple USB cables. I’m not sure what the issue is. Please guide me.


I need parental control for my kids and family , otherwise i would never waste 3 days on installation , please anyone can help here ? is there any option for paid support ?

as long as fastboot is dropping out, it will be pure luck to manage to install any rom.
good thing is that there is no real risk of really bricking your phone

Since the flashing on stock runs smoothly, I assume that it does not fail because of the cable or the adb tools

generally, I’d agree, but looking at the screenshots where fastboot devices first recognizes the phone but doesn’t on the second try points to something strange.

Since @Amore1976 has already tried differnt cables and PCs, drivers or software would be my next bet

With the same cable and computer, I restored the original firmware. The problem is that the PC doesn’t recognize it on the boot screen, but after I reboot, I can see it at https://flash.android.com

And what about when you try a manual installation, not with the Iode Installer?

I have tried both manual and automatic installation methods. Has anyone successfully installed it on the Pixel 8 Pro 1TB version? I believe the issue is not due to any mistakes on my part, but rather a bug in the installation source

This means that no suitable driver was detected, when the device is in bootloader mode.
I had the same problem with the Installation with Pixel 7a.
I used not the Installer. I had installed the manual way.
But no matter, the problem is the same.
At first everything looked normal. But after flashing the first partitions and rebooting, the driver was unknown (here: Windows 10). The device had a yellow exclamation mark.
Downloading the drivers from:

and add it in Windows Device Manager helped me.
Then the installation of Iode ran through…
