Help - iodie OS to Pixel 6 has left phone unable to boot - bricked?

Hello all - first time iodie installer here. I bought my son a Pixel 6, and we sat down to flash it earlier this evening. We used a Windows PC (connected to a front USB port on a Tower PC) with the iodie installer. As prompted, we put the phone in developer mode, USB debugging enabled, and unlocked the Boot loader. The phone showed the Fastboot screen with “Start” and as the instructions weren’t completly clear on what the phone screen status should be at this stage, I pushed “start” on the phone.

This made the phone restart in Android, so back to square one! We then went through the same process again (or rather checked the same options were enabled) then had the screen back in Fastboot mode, with “Start” showing on the power button once again (this time I left the phone alone)

This time the iodie installer started to flash the phone, although there were sounds of USB disconnection and re-connection from the PC. It took a while but was eventually finished. We locked the boot loader, and tried to start the phone.

The phone will not boot and we can only access the recovery menu (which shows the locked bootloader with unlockable in red text next to it). If we select “Start” it says the device is loading a different operating system then a white Google screen flashes up and disappears, and we end up back at the Fastboot Mode screen.

From the Fastboot screen we can select the following and get the following outcomes:-

“Start” - behaves as described above
“Power Off” - phone vibrates and shuts down. At power on, loading diff op. system, sick robot*
“Rescue Mode” - loading diff. op. system, then sick android robot*
“Recovery” - loading diff op, system, google screen flash, then sick android robot*
*“No Command” is also shown I guess meaning no software on device.

I did once get into a different Recovery mode screen that asked if I wanted to Factory reset, Update or similar, and I tried factory reset, though it talked about missing files, and didn’t change anything and I haven’t been able to get back to that screen again.

From what I have said can I get the phone back to Google Android and start again with Iodie or is the phone beyond help? Having looked on the web at Google SDK, I’m not confident with that, so I’m wondering about taking the pone to a google repair centre given the boot loader is locked?

Any help gratefully received…thanks

Update:

I think all may not be lost as I have found I can still use the Windows iode OS installer, unlock the bootloader, then I tried to reinstall iode but it still didn’t work despite seeming to install OK according to the installer status. The odd thing is the Google splash screen - I wouldn’t expect that unless thats like your Motherboard Bios splash screen, and remains even under iodie.

Does the Pixel May25 on update from Google prevent what I am doing, or am I doing (I’m not sure what software version the phone was running before the iodie install) something wrong? I’ve a background in electronics so I’m not daft, but neither am I a command line expert with SDK tools. Any help appreciated.

So two questions - can I get this back to Google Android, and if so, how do I get iodie to install successfully?

In case it helps, this phone was a Google warranty replacement, sealed in the box. It’s still in warranty until Dec25 according to the Google website using serial #

I am guessing it had upgraded to Android 16? You need to be on stock Android 15 before installing iodéOS. I have requested we make this more clear in our documentation.

To solve, please re-flash back to Android 15 using flash.android.com from a Chrome(ium based) browser, then re-attempt the iodé installer.

Keep up updated, and good luck!

Hi @rik - thanks for the reply. I did consider it may have Android 16 installed, but in the end it turned out that we needed to install the Windows 10 USB driver to complete the install. It’s all working fine now.

Is it normal that the Pixel 6 still shows a Google splash screen at start up and a message about loading a non standard OS (or words to that effect) before the iodieOS logo appears? .

I’m guessing it’s similar to your PC motherboard bios "ASUS "splash screen, as it’s a Google phone? It seems the boot message about the OS is normal from what I can find, but just wanted to check.

Thanks

Good to hear!

Yes, you have that right, basically just consider it the manufacturer boot splash. Regarding the “non standard OS” that is your badge of honor that you kicked out stock Android
