Hello,
i am using my fp4 for 2 years with iode 3 and now i want to update the system to a newer version ( iode 4 or 5 ).
Is it possible without loss of data and apps? What would be the right way to do this?
Kind regards
Stephan
No thoughts or hints on this?
My question in more detail:
OTA updates are only provided for the latest version (currently 6.3.). I have not found any older versions. If I install an iode update via ADB with an older version, will my data be deleted?
And shouldn’t I first install from V3 to V4 or V5 to get everything to work?
As long as you do not select to reformat your userdata
partition then it will not wipe it out. This is what many refer to as a “dirty flash” instead of a clean wipe / reset and install.
Of course with the big jump it may have some possible issues so make sure your important data is safely backed up off the phone first (as you should do even for minor updates).
So I think if you take the .zip
and use adb sideload
from the iodé recovery it should be possible.
Hi rik,
thanks for your explantions! I have no experience with updates over ADB, but i will try it this way - perhaps first to V4 and second to V5 …
Honestly, if you have your data saved, I would personally try to go all the way to v6.x and just use the OTA update. I am not certain you will even find the v4 and v5 builds available. Effectively OTA updates replace the system they aren’t “incrementally applied” to an existing install. With A/B slots (I am pretty sure FP4 is in this category), the new install gets placed on the other slot, then attempted to boot. If it fails to boot it will fall back to the prior used slot.
Any possible issues you encounter will be at the app data level that may require you to clear the app’s cache (which is why I suggest you make sure to have important data as a backup off the phone). But this is the “worst case scenario”.
Anyway good luck, sorry I don’t own any FP devices.
