Hello to the forum,
I have the following problem with my stock iodéOS “Fossify Messages” App:
It doesn’t send MMS any more, but can receive MMS with for example picture content. I get two different error messages:
The first one comes from iodéOS itself saying that “Fossify Messages” never used the network and therefore is an inactive app for iodéOS (which I don’t understand because I sent pure SMS before).
And it doesn’t show up in the iodéOS app so that I could check wether network access is allowed or not or what internet addresses are blocked…
The second one comes from the “Fossify Messages” app saying that the MMS message couldn’t be send - Error 5
Does someone here has the same problem and (hopefully) a solution for me?
Regards from Germany
“Klaus”
PS: I have to say that I’m running an UNOFFICIAL release for my Google Pixel 9 Pro (“caiman”) because iodéOS doesn’t support that device yet and has other priorities suporting other devices…
It is correct that Fossify Messages does not access the network itself, instead it accesses the underlying system messaging database (where MMS and SMS are stored). This is why by changing to a different messaging app the same messages will appear, for example.
Anyway, this is why the iodé app does not list it, apps only appear there after the first time they access the network. The iodé notification reporting it is an “inactive app” is just showing because it is the active app you are using, and again it has not requested or used network access itself.
Now to why MMS are now failing for you, there are some different reasons, but first is to confirm that your APN settings are correct and that no changes at your carrier may have caused an issue. You can find these bits under Settings > Network & internet > Sims > (your sim) > Access Point Names. Possibly the APN was deselected or something.
If this is all correct, you could attempt to reset the storage and cache of Fossify Messages. Again this isn’t where the actual messages are stored, so after closing and re-opening it, your messages should reappear. But, if your historical messages are important to you, you should back them up from Fossify Messages > Settingsbefore you start resetting cache or storage.
Last note: I instead use “SMS Import / Export” from F-Droid to backup and restore messages, as group MMS numbers get a bit messed up using Fossify’s backup and import.
The issue I had like this was becasue I was sending pics that were over the MMS threshold for my carrier. Once I decreased the maximum size, mine was fine again.
And I second @rik on the SMS import/Export. It seems the most reliable for me. Fossify made a mess of of my import.
