First impressions from switching Fairphones from /e/OS to IODE

Maybe it is helpful for somebody:

I switched multiple Fairphones (3/3+) from /e/OS to IODE - here are my first impressions:

  • good: the IODE-OS-installer worked flawlessly.

  • great: all apps (including a lot of proprietary apps) are working even with IODES highest block/protection level

  • annoying: the IODE-Trebuchet-window cannot be closed (alway displaying the connections), blocking space

  • one question too much: When I click on the Bluetooth tile, it asks me again if I want to switch on Bluetooth… (when I click on WLAN it just activates it …)

So far so good for me.

What’s missing?

  • Good backup-solution … but this was discussed and seems really hard. Maybe one could instead try to deeper integrate Nextcloud for backups.

  • Privacy-enhancing and out-of-the-box-integated Auto-off WLAN and Auto-off-Bluetooth (there once was Greentooth for bluetooth, for WLAN there is WIFI-Automatic) and maybe for VPN WG Tunnel.

  • Parental controls: Your solution is a good start but it doesn’t work for me as I need to restrict the actual screen-time. Maybe have a look at timelimit.io, also a very privacy-focused app.

Keep up this good work!

Is integrated …

Yes, found this out yesterday by accident.
The WLAN-Hotspot also has this feature.
I’d like to see that option for every “communication” channel … WLAN, NFC, …
