Fairphone (gen. 6)

Hello community!

I see that LineageOS still doesn’t offer a ROM for this phone, so I assume that the IodéOS (7.2) ROM is an improvement on the GSI because it has a few bugs:

  1. Unlocking (x2):
When starting up, after entering the SIM card PIN code, I unlock the screen with the phone code and get to the main screen, but the phone locks, so I have to enter the phone code a second time.

  2. Microphone/speaker issues:
I don’t think these are the right codecs because the microphone sound is very low and poor quality, and the same goes for the speakers.

  3. Camera app:
The app does not offer zoom or macro capture.

  4. Battery charging:
When the phone is turned off, it doesn’t always show the charge percentage but displays a question mark, so I don’t know if the phone is actually charging.

  5. Battery cycle:
In the battery options, it’s impossible to see the number of charge cycles.

  6. Battery discharge:
I honestly find that the battery discharges faster than normal. Last year, I installed GSI on this phone and the battery held its charge much better.

Thank you in advance for your response and your work.

Best regards,

Didi - FP6

Please could you clarify whether you are seeing these bugs on the GSI, or on the 7.2 build for FP6? The word ‘it’ in your post could mean either.

These 6 bugs are present in version 7.2.

Last year, when I installed GSI on the FP6, almost all of these bugs were already present, except for the abnormal battery drain.

@didi, it is correct that there is no official LineageOS build for the FP6. iodéOS builds are based on this repo I believe: GitHub - ArianK16a/android_device_fairphone_FP6

I don’t follow the Fairphone forums but maybe there is an update on the status of producing an officially supported LineageOS build (? or maybe they have never created officially supported LineageOS builds, instead it is the LineageOS community on their own?)

A few comments on your issues from above:

If you have a SIM pin required, then it is normal that you need to enter it as well as your device unlock PIN / pattern. They are not technically related, but you may have them set to the same PIN?

Microphone, Battery issues may be ones to check in with at the above LineageOS port? But they may not be too eager to troubleshoot an iodéOS build, instead they may require you to flash their LineageOS build then evaluate if those same issues are present.

I am forwarding this thread to our developers so they can evaluate if any of the problems may be at the iodéOS level.

Thank you for your reply.

Regarding unlocking (x2):

When I enter my SIM card PIN code and then unlock the smartphone security code, I am taken to the home screen, but the smartphone locks again immediately and I have to enter the smartphone security code a second time. So it is indeed x2.

Regarding charging the battery when the smartphone is turned off with the question mark. I no longer have this problem now, perhaps because the smartphone was new?

The same goes for displaying battery cycles; I no longer have this problem. They are displayed normally, perhaps because the phone was new?

However, the abnormal battery drain is still present. I noticed that in the options: ‘battery usage’ > ‘display by system’, the screen uses 49% of the battery and the mobile network uses 44%. Maybe that’s where it comes from?

As for the microphone and speakers, I really think it’s because the drivers aren’t really suitable.

My FP6 is still in 7.1.
I guess 7.2 is not yet released by iodé for the FP6 (?)

As far as I can see: yes (for OTA).

Other users talking about 7.2 in this thread might use the beta version, but I am not sure (since I do not own a FairPhone).

EDIT: After reading this, I am not sure about the latest stable build.

Yes, the latest stable version (OTA) is version 7.1.

There was a (BETA) version 7.2, but it has not been available on Gitlab for the past day. Version 7.3 has not been released either. I am awaiting a response from @vince31fr to clarify this.

Yes it is correct, there are some blockers for the FP6 to get 7.2 or 7.3, partly related to “if your bootloader is locked and you upgrade” then your device may not boot after the upgrade. So you will have to patient on this, hopefully the solution is uncovered. Stay tuned!
