I moved from CalyxOS to IodeOS on my Fairphone 5. The manual installation worked fine. So far everything else worked fine.
The eSIM in the FP5 was connected to 5G right after the installation. All permissions are granted. I can make calls and receive calls. I also get the connection sound for outgoing calls. But the voice part does not work, so I don‘t hear the other side and the microphone doesn’t work either. Trying an alternative phone app resulted in the same behavior.
Further observations:
The microphone works in the recorder app
Calls with Signal and Threema work in one direction only (microphone does not work)
BigBlueButton conferences don‘t work as well – both directions
Sound playback via browser and radio app works
I searched for the problem but didn’t find any helpful results. Would be great to get some feedback how to solve or debug the problem.
Hi, do the calls work for you now in iode 7.3? Because they do not work for me, I installed the latest iode (the version 7.3) and have exactly the same issues.
Hi, I have the same issue, with the same exact behavior as OP. I am also on 7.3-20260305. Even trying to use a bluetooth headset does not solve the issue.
So what did the trick for me was to install the stock Fairphone Android and then iodeOS again. I think it has to do with some firmware/driver shit. I made sure to not the latest version, but the one prior to the last release to match iodeOS’ security patch level, as I was scared of bricking my device. This can happen if you try to relock and downgraded your security patch level.
So far I was only able to test the microphone via Discord, but that does work now and did not before.
Hi chef, thank you for letting me know. So if I have security patch from february in iode I need also february in fairphone OS, right? Btw. Fairphone is currently using Android 15 while Iode is on 16, I assume that was the case for you as well right? And all went withouth hiccups?
Thanks a lot!
Exactly, I used FP5-VT2M-factory. I didn’t even check which Android version Fairphone used, but for me it worked flawlessly. Just make sure to boot once into Fairphone, but do not let it update to the latest version. For booting into Fairphone you also do not need to relock the bootloader. And before relocking for iode, check if it is booting properly.
Glad you have working microphones again. I have alerted our lead developer about this thread to see if there are some ideas he may have to prevent others from running into this issue.
