Fairphone 4 Installation without boot warning

Hello everyone,

I bought an FP4 and, as with my old FP3, I would like to use iodeOS again. It’s a wonderful operating system for this device.

I have now installed it manually, following the step-by-step instructions exactly. Of course, I unlocked it first and then locked the bootloader again.

However, the message “Your device is loading a different operating system” appears. Is this unavoidable with the FP4? I don’t get this message with the FP3.

Especially since the FP4 is also sold as an official device, it should be possible to create a working signature for the bootloader.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards, Max

Hi dreamless,

no need to worry:
The forum search found this:

Okay. That’s a bit of a shame. I was hoping it would be like FP3, where this message isn’t displayed. The message only appears for unsigned custom ROMs.

Is there anyone here with the FP4 from the official iode-store? Does this message appear there too?

Let me try it with different words:

This is not a matter of iodéOS. It is a security note from Android Verified Boot (AVB) to inform you that you are loading a different OS than the stock OS. It tells you that everything is okay and working as you wish (that is: your chosen custom ROM is being loaded).

I have it on my Motorola G32, too.

Thank you for your reply.
I am already aware of this message. I also had it with other ROMs on my FP3.
However, it was no longer displayed with iodeOS.
Hence my question as to whether and why this does not also work with FP4.

This would have to do with the manufacturer’s “bits” (a very non-technical term), that can also be seen by the boot “splash” showing the manufacturer logo (at least on Pixels: you still get the “Google” logo which is a bain of many de-googled Pixel owners but can’t be avoided… it is at the underlying firmware level).

Note that the message is just “it is loading a different system” which is true, it is not loading Fairphone OS, the “stock” image. But it is NOT the scary message you get if your bootloader is unlocked where it warns you of “warning the data on this device may be compromised and can’t be trusted!” each time you boot.

I’m not sure if it belongs to newer devices (and the firmware only the factory may change) or to Software based on newer versions of AOSP (including lineage ans iodeOS), but as far as I understand “in present days” the yellow Message

can only appear, if the bootloader is locked and the software is approved by avb (the android version of secure boot on desktops). And as far as i know unsigned custom ROMs cannot be booted with locked bootloader as they are not trusted by avb (at least without a hack) and so display the orange or the red message whenever they are to be booted with unlocked bootloader.
