Today, I successfully installed iodéOS (or at least I thought so) on my new FP6. After the initial boot, which happens automatically when the installer finishes, it took a long time to leave the iodé screen. However, there were no errors during installation, so I didn’t think much of it. I installed some apps and the phone ran for a couple of hours, but then I noticed that the camera app crashes instantly when I try to open it. I rebooted the phone, but now I’m stuck on the iodé screen. Sometimes, after 3–30 minutes, I reach the lock screen, but before I can do anything, I’m back on the iodé screen. There are no errors or crashes. When I press and hold the power button, the phone turns off. When I start it again, it starts with the usual ‘Your device has loaded a different OS’ warning. Then the Fairphone logo pops up and disappears as normal. Then the iodé animation starts, including the website link. Then the described thing happens.
Do I have any chance of fixing it? On my phone or with a PC? If not, what are my best options? I heard that you can send your phone to Fairphone and they can reset it to stock Android.

Here are some additional details that might be useful:
The PC I used for the installation runs Windows 11.
I used version 0.3.1 of the Windows installer.
I installed the necessary drivers before starting the installation, and enabling USB debugging and unlocking the bootloader wasn’t an issue.
I answered ‘yes’ to the question about relocking the bootloader in the installer because I didn’t have any issues with it when I installed iodéOS on my FP4 last year.
I updated to the latest Android version (16.x) before updating.
“The Latest Android 16 version” may be the problem, as it may then trigger ARB (“Anti-Rollback Protection”). But if it booted at least one time then that does seem strange as it would have prevented booting even once?
One thing to try is to “Wipe data / factory reset” the device from Recovery?

To be honest, I didn’t know that I could manually trigger fastboot by pressing volume down + power on, and then unlock the device via a fastboot command on Windows (fastboot flashing unlock). After that, I can easily run the stock Android installer from Fairphone. Thanks for the hint about the latest Android version. Then, in a couple of weeks, I will give iodéOS another shot.
I already installed two FP6 (initially with 7.4 and 7.5), both went fine.
Two days ago, I wanted to flash a third one with 7.6-fastboot.zip. Flashing went fine, but I was stuck in a bootloop, only the iode start screen, and nothing else.
I then flashed 7.5-fastboot.zip, and iode started fine as it should. Afterwards ota-updated to 7.6.
I don’t now what the issue was/is, luckily I didn’t lock the bootloader directly.
So maybe you can unlock the bootloader and try via 7.5 + ota 7.6…
I do see that Fairphone released a “22 June 2026 release with 05 Jun 2026 security patch”.
If this version of FPOS was installed, then it will trigger a no-boot if you install iodéOS 7.6.
I did get confirmation that iodéOS 7.7 (currently in beta) will have this 05 Jun 2026 security patch included, so after it is released you can use the Graphical Installer again (or you can install the beta now using the manual process).
The FPOS version I first tried to install iode 7.6. was Android 15 from 5. February 2026… This was definitly no ARB issue (+unlocked bootloader) on my side.
Do you see any issues how I solved it? Installing 7.5 on top and then ota to 7.6. Could this “corrupt” userdata or so?
I must correct my previous message. I just installed IodeOS 7.7 on the FP6 with the July security patch, using the Windows installer. Now everything works fine.
No problems if it worked If your bootloader is unlocked, there is no ARB period. I can’t say why your direct 7.6 install failed, but again no issue to just OTA upgrade: the system is “read-only” and fully replaced (“atomic”) when you OTA upgrade, so it isn’t “cobbled” or anything.
Yes. But if you upgrade to a new July FPOS update then you will need to wait for 7.8. Advice? If you are FPOS and want to move to iodéOS or any other ROM and want to relock the bootloader stop automatic updates so you won’t be continually “slightly ahead” of being able to do it.
