Hello,
I’m new to iode. Is there a workaround YouTube not working because “your device does not support Google services”? Can’t it be sandboxed by microG and still run? I’m able to install it but not to run it.
…or you could just install ‘newpipe’ from the F-Droid store instead.
I did. I got iode for my mum as well, and as an old(er) person she doesn’t take new things easily. She was subscribed to some YT channels and would like to carry on following them. Plus, if someone sends her a YT link to watch, when she clicks on the link it opens up in YouTube in a browser, not the app.
hi
so that newpipe opens the links go to settings… apps… all apps… newpipe… open by default… add link…
and activate the corresponding links.
when you first open a link… it will then ask you… what you want to open it with… then tap always newpipe.
and you can also follow channels in newpipe.
hope that helps you now.
That problem should be fixed in the latest version of IodéOS (v5.8) and the latest version of microG Services (v0.3.6)
Tubular (Newpipe fork), that comes with sponsorblock and return youtube dislikes included. Download from izzyondroid (F-droid). Works fine on iode.
Whatsapp refuses Tom work on iode 5.8 and Fairphone 5. Older WhatsApp apks did not help. When connecting a phone ID, I get redirected to a screen saying “You need the Official WhatsApp to log in”. (error keeps throwing even when installing the official apk from whatsapp.
Does someone here have a fix? I cannot use my phone without WhatsApp and will be forced to go back to the Fairphone OS otherwise
The whatsapp ‘fix’ for me when Zuckerberg bought it was to switch to Telegram. Might not completely solve your problem but works fine on all my OSS devices including my iode phone.
That’s not the answer and not helpful
Installed from Aurora store?
Have you checked your microG settings?
Maybe not in this case but sometimes OSS users need to show their support to the service companies and their developers that support OSS. I have already mentioned on here that I switched banks because they told me I would have to go to playstore for their app. A quick search of ‘OSS banks’ revealed that Lloyds bank supported OSS for not only its clients usage but also internally throughout its organisation. Sometimes you have to go the extra mile if you want OSS to become mainstream and this is the only way I can think of that can truly be effective in the longer term.
Hey,
thanks for the fast answer. Ive created a post for my issue, since it kinda off topic here on the list:
I can’t stand these endless, pointless debates anymore… let people use what they want and stop acting like the Messiah… always this stupid chatter…
Oooh… think I might have touched a nerve there!
I think I will ignore you in the future and also consider withdrawing from here as long as such i**** like you are causing trouble here and saying senseless things. You just have to read your confusing demonstrator stuff
Please yourself!
@AlphaElwedritsch is right. It is not possible for me to drop Whatsapp. Setting up Signal worked like a charm and yeah i want everybody to use (f.e.) that. But now, since WhatsApp doesnt work on Iode at the moment, i will revert to the Stock OS, which is even worse for Privacy.
That is why WhatsApp not working is BAD for my privacy. Not using it would be even better, but that is not possible (Work, large friend groups, old contacts, so on).
I cannot edit the list (“num ber” is not allowed?), which is really bad since new users use it to decide what os to install. Someone please Fix that. WhatsApp should be red.
If anyone gets Whatsapp to work on FP5 with new registration, please hit me up, since I dont have a second device to Test on.
Thanks for the fast response, hope to come back to iode soon
Switching banks is easy. Switching friends snd family is harder
That’s true I don’t deny however I switched over from WA back in 2014, and sent out emails to all my F & F with my Telegram address for those who wanted to stay in touch and a fair proportion of them followed me. Not saying they switched over to Telegram, more than likely they now use both but that’s fairly typical of most people these days. It’s not ideal I accept but it does provide a way of shaking things down a little whilst giving you the opportunity to find out just who your real friends are. There have been other ‘tough’ decisions a long the way too as it wasn’t until about 2019 that I became completely ungoogled, but the rewards have come now because I find myself in a situation whereby I have no dependencies whatsoever. So Schmoogle’s latest attempt to lock out CR user’s completely with their latest trick (GPI), holds no fears for me. Isn’t this what OSS is really all about?
Consider yourself a lucky guy then! (Sincerely).
