Dual esim scenario: Esim adapter (9esim) will not re-connect to mobile network after reboot

  • Device: Pixel 8 Pro
  • iodéOS Version: 7.8
  • Affected App(s): Device Operating System

Short Description:

Dual esim scenario: Esim adapter (9esim) will not re-connect to mobile network after reboot.

New Issue, Regression, or Feature Request?

New issue

Additional Information:

Using dual esim (esim + esim adapter) scenario. Successfully activated “esim2” using an adapter in slot0 and “esim1” in slot1 the first time. Rebooted device and “esim2” will no longer connect to mobile network. Using esim2 on another device with Calyxos 6.10.20 is successful.

Phone info does not show my IMS phone number (e.g. +1##########)

Previously tried esim + esim scenario. After reboot Openeuicc does not see two esim slots and can only use one esim slot. Reinstall of iodeOS did not help esim + esim scenario. Decided to try physical sim (esim adapter) + esim as a workaround. Encountered issue described above.

Mobile provider says the issue is on my device.

Saw the same behavior on iodeos 7.5 and 7.7 as well.

Is there a reason why you don’t use iodéOS 7.8 (stable)?

My mistake. I am on 7.8. Updated today. Updating the above info.

Have you enabled the dual SIM mode in the OpenEUICC > top right 3 dots menu?

Hey rik,

Yes the dual SIM option is checked for both scenarios esim + esim and esim + esim adapter.

So is the reason for multiple eSIM that one is data only another is for voice? Or instead you toggle between them frequently? Or other reason? Still trying to understand the usage scenario which may give a clue where to look.

rik thank you for the reply, both esims have data and voice/sms. I use esim1 as primary data and esim2 as primary voice/sms. I do not toggle between the two.

If it helps, the esim adapter (esim2) is the primary voice/sms

Not sure how to quote your post here, sorry about that.

Simultaneously active dual sims (e and / or physical) have been a bit complicated / unsatisfactory in their management as seen here, for example: Dual-SIM Issues: No way to individually manage mobile data and roaming settings?

To your issue, are APN settings confirmed correct for both? I am actually not well versed in dual SIM management, I do have 2 SIMs (both physical, no eSIM) from different networks (second one for testing) but my regular phones don’t have dual phsyical SIM slots. I see I may be able to test with a OnePlus Nord N20 or N30 as both of those seem to possibly support dual physical SIMs. I’ll put that on my “to check list” so I can at least test dual SIM usage.

With Discourse (at least on desktop) if you just hilight part of a post then you can hit “q” but also an overlay should pop up that allows you to “quote”.

Confirmed APN settings are correct for both. Just to confirm my Pixel 8 pro has a physical sim and esim slot. I use an esim adapter in the physical sim slot. Both sims are from the same network provider fwiw. I’ll read the linked post.

Thank you so much.

If I’ve understood correctly, you want to use the e-SIMs at the same time. That doesn’t work on many phones. On my phone, the Fairphone 5, you can set up two or more e-SIMs, but you can only use one at a time. That’s why I use a physical SIM and an e-SIM.

Yeah, I suppose it’s at he same time if one is for data and the other for voice. Technically I am using a physical sim (9esim adapter) + an esim. My pixel 8 pro was working in this scenario until I rebooted. If this is a problem that cannot be fixed, I understand.

Did some troubleshooting.

Reinstalled iodeos 7.8 and installed both esims (esim + esim adapter).

Everything went well until I set the primary sims as one using data and the other as sms/voice. Iode is in a broken state at this point after reboot in regards to this set up and would need to reinstall OS in order to get this to work again.

I suppose I could just set the primary sims as just one of them. Would the other sim still work for receiving SMS/voice if I did this?

Update: as long as I do not set different primary sims, all is well. This is ok for me as a workaround since I can still receive calls/SMS from the secondary esim.

Forgive my ignorance (no experience yet with dual sim usage), but where is the setting to make primary / secondary? Inside the SIM settings?

No problem. After you add both sims, the options appear at the bottom.

Thanks! A picture says a 1000 words
