Yes as you found there is no TTS solution bundled with comaps, instead you need to setup system TTS and then link it together in comaps settings.
What TTS solution did you go for? I have tried Sherpa due to its more polished voices but didn’t get over the line with it getting integrated in comaps (and I don’t use voice navigation so didn’t try too hard).
Yes, I first integrated Espeak into Comaps, and it works, but the voices are not quite human-like enough…
So I became interested in Sherpa TTS, and I managed to install it and use it with Comaps, and now the voices are much better!
So everything is fine for me now…

I have use the eSpeak up untill now. I actually enjoy the retro-robo-like speech pattern of it.
I am curious about SherpaTTS. In F-droid they warn that “This app depends on Non-Free Network Services”. What does that mean exactly?

Yes, I saw that too.
But the app is on F-Droid, so it’s pretty reliable.
The documentation specifies that data is only downloaded during the installation of the selected language, and nothing else afterwards… privacy is respected!
