Hello everyone, I haven’t rooted my device for a couple of years and am now trying to catch up. I’m a bit confused about why certain systems, including this one, require specific recovery and what the process of installing this system on my S9 is. I manage several phones, and most have no issues flashing ROMs, but this seems to be a special case requiring a specific recovery. Could someone provide clear, simple instructions for installing it on my S9 Plus? It appears that Orange Fox recovery allows for the 4.1 version, but updating from it causes problems unless using a suggested recovery, which I don’t know how to install or why it’s necessary. Thank you.
Here are the install instructions: GitHub - iodeOS/ota
By “special recovery” do you just mean the iodé recovery? I would guess you could keep another custom recovery, but I don’t have any experience with Samsung devices. Possibly not an issue for you, but if you are in a country where you need VoLTE for calls I think it isn’t currently possible on Samsung devices with a custom ROM. In the USA, for example, this is critical as there are no 3G towers anymore and 2G is mostly shut down. Without VoLTE there is not ability to make calls.

Clear, simple instructions for installation
A) Download iodé ROM + Recovery:
iode-4.21-20250303-star2lte-ota.zip
iode-4.21-20250303-star2lte-recovery.img
B) Transfer both files to a microSD card.
C) Boot into your Orange Fox recovery (OFR)
D) ORF > INSTALL > iode-4.21-20250303-star2lte-recovery.img into /RECOVERY partition
E) Reboot into recovery to verify the iodéOS Recovery installation.
F) In iodéOS-Recovery sideload iode*.zip
- On your S9+ (star2lte), select “Apply Update”, then “Choose from sdcard”
- Navigate within the microSD card and select iode-4.21-20250303-star2lte-ota.zip - and the installation process begins.
G) After the package is installed, select “Reboot system now” in iodé-Recovery
That’s all
