Clash of Heliboard versions

Summary: The iodé version of Heliboard blocks the update of the regular version. This was not an issue until the recent 3.7 release.

I use the standard version of Heliboard from F-Droid for reasons detailed in this previous post. Since it is seemingly not possible to remove the iodé version (it doesn’t appear in Pre-installed Apps), I have simply disabled it, but for the last couple of years I have simultaneously updated both versions from within F-Droid, no problem.

With v3.7 becoming available, I updated the iodé version first, but when I subsequently try to update the standard version, I get the message:

Error installing HeliBoard

Error - 13: The new package failed because it contains a content provider with the same authority as a provider already installed in the system.

OK

I’m hence unable to update the standard version from 3.6, which is a shame since it contains an emoji search feature that I’d like to use. I tried rebooting, that makes no difference.

On a Fairphone 3+ running iodéOS 6.12. Just updated to 6.13, same problem.

Have you checked the iodé updates in F-Droid Store? There’s a new version 3.8 iodé 24.

Yes I saw that update available for both versions, so I thought I’d see if I could apply the non-iodé version first. Still the same error. Then I applied the iodé version. Error remains.

A month ago, I also tried to uninstall Heliboard, which doesn’t work very well on my Google Pixel 7 running Iode, but without success because the app wasn’t showing up in the list
But now – whilst reading this post – I’ve come across this app twice !!

1°) version 3.6 helium 314.keyboard

2°) version 3.7 iode 23

The newest beta updates (from yesterday, March 15, 2026) include a fix to not conflict with installing upstream Heliboard.

Yes I saw the update earlier. Wasn’t expecting it to be the fix but indeed, it allowed me to install the regular version afterwards. Thanks a lot.
