"Can't switch SIMs" error combining eSIM and physical SIM

Hi! I’m a happy iodé user on a OnePlus 13, but I have a SIM/eSIM related problem.

After installing iodé I activated a US eSIM that worked right away. But today, I tried adding two physical sim cards I use when traveling and it automatically deactivated the eSIM. When trying to set them up (ie use the eSIM by default not the physical SIM) I get a “Can’t switch SIMs” error and the eSIM won’t activate.

I tried reinstalling the eSIM but I can’t even remove it. I’m really hoping it’s possible to use both eSIM-SIM at the same time but I’m running out of ideas on how to accomplish that.

Please check in “OpenEUICC > 3 dots top right” if you have “Dual SIM” checked? Maybe there is even a “Triple SIM” option (sorry I don’t have a dual physical SIM phone to see if that is possible or not)?

Thanks rik for the quick answer! I’ve looked hard but cannot find OpenEUICC anywhere in my settings, including the developer options. I read about it in another post and tried downloading the app under the same name, but it won’t open. Sorry I’m pretty ignorant on how this all works.

So OpenEUICC isn’t available for me in the preinstalled app, it seems to be called SIM Manager now, but is not an app I can find or open. I did install OpenEUICC through F-droid but can’t open the app (“OpenEUICC keeps stopping”)

OpenEUICC is not compatible with all devices, and I think the OnePlus are some of those (as you are finding out). If it wasn’t there, then yes “SIM Manager” (Google) is the default and is used for eSIM registration. I don’t know of any configuration there to enable dual / triple SIM so that was a bad direction I steered you in.

I think (??) some phones list the second slot as SIM / eSIM. But it still has only 2 slots. This may be true (you can have 1 physical and a second physical OR eSIM)? Sorry I am not certain though.

I think I finally kinda figured it out. After adding an eSIM, you have to click on +Add SIM, even for the physical sim. And that will set it up properly and let you use both at the same time. I assumed that just adding the SIM cards would work automatically, but apparently no.

Also, adding two physical SIMS seems to take over the eSIM. I wish I could have 3 SIMS together and choose what’s what. But that’s not possible apparently :frowning:

Thanks for the explanation and a bit of testing to sort it out.
