I finally managed to get iode 4.14 installed on my S9, which I could only do via linux btw (maybe someone should update the installation notes).
Then I needed to root the phone for titanium backup to restore all my apps and settings, and also need root for AFWall later on.
After following the Magisk installation guide, I noticed that I had to get the AP from stock firmware, patch it with Magisk, and then flash that patched AP with the BL, CP, and CSC from the original firmware. I knew this would wipe my fresh iode install, but I figured I could install iode again over stock and it’ll have root.
It even says in Important Notes: “To upgrade your device with a new firmware, NEVER directly use the stock AP
tar file with reasons mentioned above. Always patch AP
in the Magisk app and use that instead.”
Thing is, it didn’t have root after the iode 4.14 reinstall over the rooted stock firmware.
So now I’m confused at the apparent root-loop that I found via the official magisk docs.
Can anyone here provide better instructions on how this is done?
