AuroraStore: Can't Install some category apps: Could not get files error

Fresh Install of Iode OS. Some apps in the Aurora Store give the following error when trying to download:

com.aurora.store.data.work.DownloadWorker$d: Could not get files at
com.aurora.store.data.work.DownloadWorker.n(SourceFile:432) at
com.aurora.store.data.work.DownloadWorker$g.t(SourceFile:1)
at C5.a.n(SourceFile:9)
at Y5.M.run(SourceFile:115)
at f6.a$b.run(SourceFile:99)

Tried:

  • Factory reset and leaving settings as default.
  • Turning off Iode blocker and changing Aurora Store blocking from standard to none.
  • Private DNS changed from Automatic to off.
  • Aurora Store login as anonymous or google login

The APKPure app downloaded and installed Tinder (and others) with login functional on Iode OS. Tinder wouldn’t download from Aurora Store on Iode OS (on the same device), but did download from Aurora Store on a stock Samsung (different device).

Categories that did not load and showed “No apps available” in Aurora:
Dating, Libraries & Demo, Medical. Every other category did load normally. The non-loading category apps seem to be the only apps that aren’t installing and giving an error in Aurora Store.

On a Stock OS Samsung phone the Aurora store still couldn’t load the same categories: Dating, Libraries & Demo, Medical Categories. However apps from those categories did download and installed without issues, unlike on Iode OS (from limited testing). So I’m not sure were the issue lies, partially Aurora, but the downloading issue is likely related to Iode OS or Lineage OS custom roms (Iode OS is a derivative fork).

This error report was also sent to the Aurora Gitlab

Using Aurora Store’s spoof manager in the settings helped resolve my issue by switching the device to a Galaxy S25 Ultra or Pixel 9 Pro. Now apps that weren’t displaying nor downloading before are now downloading without error. Although some categories still don’t display app lists properly, but I can live with that. This is a big relief!

I am wondering if switching the device identity in Aurora effectively force stopped / restarted Aurora and that was what is needed. If you find in the future that you can’t find an app, or if you find it but when you go to its detail it isn’t available for install, give a try to force stop Aurora and re-launch to see if it will then list.

I haven’t sorted out the trigger causing this block, if it is at the Aurora level, at the iodé blocker level, or maybe at the microG level where there is something that gets out of sync and needs a restart of the Aurora store, but for me that will (usually) clear it up.

Indeed, I just encountered the same issue when trying to install the ‘Family Gift’ app (com.trempette.family_gift_2). The error ‘Could not get files’ appears at the bottom of the ‘Aurora Installer’ page. The files are listed in red on the page.

This problem was identical on Fairphone 6 running /e/OS, Brax3 running IodéOS, and a VollaPhone running VollaOS.

In all three cases, changing the spoofed identity to ‘Google Pixel 9a’ fixed the problem. What’s more, after changing the phone’s identity back to the correct one, it continues to work, (I could uninstall + reinstall the app with the correct device label without a glich).

So I assume that simply rebooting the app once the phone’s identity has been changed is enough to fix the problem…

Just FWIW I just had this issue over the weekend on my BraX3, and I got round it this way (see my post below on BraxTech Community for details):
