Audio playback from websites stops, problaby energy saving related

Hi everyone,

on my Shift8 (running iode 7.6) the playback of audio content from websites (meaning directly playing from websites with iode browser) often stops after a minute, sometimes later - if the screen is off. Sometimes it runs a bit longer, there is no recognizable pattern in the delay.

If I keep the screen on, e.g. with Caffeine, the issue normally doesn’t occur.

It also doesn’t seem to be related to the data network (like switching from wifi to cell or vice-versa). I can stay connected to the same wifi the whole time and it can interrupt - if the screen is turned off.

So that being said I think it should be safe to say this is probably related to power-saving going over the top.

I’m just not sure if it’s caused by the device, the Android version installed on it, customizations of iode, drivers, etc..
I have a Samsung Galaxy S10, still running on iode 4.35 where this issue barely occurs.
Does anybody have the same issue or have an idea on how to mitigate it?

Have you checked if background usage at battery menue of the iodé Browser is activated?

I believe it’s Display active and browser related. I blamed the browser at first, but sitting and watching I found Via browser stops playing audio 1 second after the screen goes off at the Display > Screen timeout setting. If I move the phone before that timeout to make the screen rotate, the Screen timeout countdown is reset. So far it looks like Free browser keeps the screen alive, hence audio alive, but I’m still testing. It would be preferable to find a browser that could play through the Screen timeout without having to keep the screen alive.

Maybe it’s some function of the Shift8 - I have a BraX3 with iodéOS 7.7. I checked 7 browsers from F-droid with Battery Manager OFF, and Mobile Data > Background data ON; 4 browsers stopped playing when the screen timeout was reached and the display turned off; 2 browsers kept the screen awake in order to keep playing.

iodé-Browser kept playing at least 5 minutes after the screen turned off, checked from two different websites.

The browser isn’t limited in data usage. The battery allowance is currently “optimized”, but “unrestricted” didn’t make a change.

I didn’t really blame the browser, but assumed more that this is related to power saving of OS or device.

Hi, of course there is no pattern to recognize, because the buffer of download depends on data load and connection quality. Usually, so I assume, it should be like: Switch off of display means interuption of download, due to energy saving settings, the music might play as long as there are data in the buffer.
Best peace
