I did arrive to iodéOS 2 or 3 months ago from CalyxOS.
I just discovered now that I still had Aperture/LineageOS version (probably coming from seedvault) and did not know anything about Aperture/IodéOS that I installed today. Unfortunately the former Lineage version is still there, in parallel!
I cannot uninstall Aperture/Lineage, I can only “desactivate” it but it is not the same thing. What happens there? Is there a solution?
I expected a more “developped” version of Aperture with IodéOS 7… Will something come?
Please always specify your smartphone model and the iodéOS version that you currently have.
I did switch from CalyxOS, too, in August. But I did not interfere with the system apps that iodé installs by default. When you flash the OS, do not use the “have a backup?” option. (I think, this should be improved in the installer.) Instead, let iodé install all standard apps including F-Droid app, THEN restore data and remaining apps from the seedvault backup. You can select which apps you want to restore. So omit F-Droid, Aperture etc.
This avoids problems with F-Droid and other standard apps.
You could run the installer again. Let the installer do its thing with aperture and restore other apps like mail, messenger, … from your existing seedvault backup afterwards.
You may need to do some settings again in the preinstalled apps (example: I manually add the Threema-repository to F-Droid).
Thanks for the proposal of solution. I do not completely remember how I did it but it seems logical. As always, I crossed my fingers to have everything going smoothly when making the switch and I do not remember the exact procedure I did follow.
Reinstall completely to completely eliminate the second Aperture is too much work and maybe not necessary.
Thanks @MissPiggy and glad you got it sorted, @Correcaminos . I believe part of the assumption of the onboarding process asking if you have a backup is that you aren’t restoring from another ROM, instead that you had iodé on your old device and are now setting up iodé on a new device, but that isn’t obvious and isn’t explained well.
Yes, I understand that now, after having made the transition for the first time. BTW: Still wondering, how I managed to do it in the first place, being quite a beginner still at that time.
I just wanted to suggest that this could be communicated in the way you explain it: As a fork (coming from other ROM/coming from iodé) for an educated decision when to put the backup into action.
Luckily, I had not installed too many apps when using seedvault and installer for the first time, so I found out very soon, that I had chosen the wrong moment for restoring my apps and was able to start over again without losing data. Phew!
For me, having seedvault allowing to restore (almost) everything from another ROM is really a great progress. And the installer is great also. I had played with so many tricks in the past in order to have some kind of backup option, root/non-root and so on, iodé offers a smooth way to recover the control over my phone and I do not complain!
The only apk that is definitely not recoverable is whatsap with no google backup, I always loose all my former messages; the bad news is that meta has kept all my messages somewhere and I have none of them but I also try to keep wapk for the less valuable exchanges!
Yes, you make some good points, many apps are able to restore their data. I would suggest for various system apps that they be excluded from your seedvault backups. In this case, Aperture as a non-system CalyxOS app (?), and as a system app in iodéOS means if seedvault restores it then it will be duplicated or cause a bit of confusion as it is restored as a user app but is already there as a system app.
Other non-restoring apps are other various ones that have encryption such as Signal, Matrix apps, etc. but this is to be expected (that export and restore would not be possible with the data).
