Android 16 upgrade

Hi,

I’ve got a pixel 8 with A16, and unable to downgrade to A15 due downgrade due backward version restriction.

I seen that lineage os 23 (A16) is available for the pixel 8, my question is there plans for iode to adopt ,if so is there a forecast as to when.

I’m assuming that the restriction would not now be a problem.

I have downgraded several Pixels from the newest stock Android 16 to the last stock Android 15 build using flash.android.com, you shouldn’t face a problem doing that, let me know if you still face problems.

Regarding iodéOS moving to an Android 16 / LineageOS 23 base, that is currently in development, stay tuned to the announcements here, on our blog, or in the iodé News app!

rik,

Thanks for your comments regarding downgrading, I tried the method you suggested but I had the option downgrade to the May release which introduced the backward grade counter, I did try selected the April release but a failure message say May or release only.

As for Iode 7 (A16) LOS 23 I’ll wait for that and hope it doesnt have the backward grade restriction.

GOS quote they are at A16 and its available to install , but RCS is still buggy and I need the blood sugar app Contour Diabetes app which isn’t GOS compatible.

@kenrw8
You could temporarily install LineageOS 23.0 with a version of MinMicroG LineageOS now supports nativ System-Signatur-Spoofing.
By the way: LineageOS does not support bootloader relocking.

I would rather wait 1 or 2 months and stay on stock. Lineage23 just arrived for my phone Pixel 9a. Iodé7 would be a great christmas present.

Okay, everyone is the architect of their own fortune. But for me, Google Stock Android is not an option because of the constant data theft.

In addition to iodéOS, GrapheneOS is also an option – both with relocked bootloaders:

However, I can’t understand that, because with Sandboxed Google Play a lot works very well, doesn’t it?

Before installing GOS I posted a query as to whether the app work, but after 9 days I did get an answer, so assumed no.

The company that make the reader is american, but has two versions, US and EU, and I have the EU one. And don’t whether GOS works with US and EU or just US.

Also I want to use Google RCS, but there are a lot of comments of being temperamental on GOS.

I know both of these work on Iode Pixel 5.

On iodéOS or other custom operating systems except GrapheneOS, RCS does not work at all without root access.

Ahh that sheds a new light, most of my friends only use RCS in favour of whatapp, signal.

I’ll have to think about installing iode

So if you use this link: Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices  |  Google Play services  |  Google for Developers and choose “Flash” next to the May 2025 Android 15 entry for the Pixel 8, it is unable to flash it? You will need to fully wipe / factory reset. But I did this for a Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro that I intentionally upgraded to Android 16 in order to test this. But it was a few months back, I don’t have a device on hand now to re-confirm exactly how I did it.

I use MMS and miss features like sending “emoticon responses” etc., and their images and videos are downsized to whatever my carrier decides is big enough, and it isn’t secure, but as far as I know I don’t miss any messages from iOS, Google RCS users in group chats and happily send them photos, etc.

GOS is doing some things to sandbox it to make it work, but RCS at its core remains beholden to Google and Google servers (and Google Messages). There is now a $10,000 bounty on the microG issue tracker to get it supported, but I wouldn’t hold out hope for a near-term fix, it will take some time (if ever).
