4G instead of LTE

Afternoon all, just seeing if there is a setting I have missed on my UK ( EE ) Pixel 9 pro on 6.9 to show 4G instead of LTE on the status bar?

When I have 5G signal that shows ok

Thanks in advance

4G basically is LTE … what is the problem exactly, that it shows a weak signal?

The signal doesnt seem amazing on 4G and 5G compared to my wifes stock Galaxy S24 and daughters iphone 15 now you mention it but im on wifi most of the time ha,

It could be the sim card or a problem with the pixel 9 pro and iode?

You could swap sim cards and compare the signal strength, as a first step

You could install Tower (link below) to check cellular strength etc. on the Pixel and the Samsung and compare. I would assume there is something like this for iOS too.

tower | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

Thanks ill take a look at that, I looked on the EE website and it showed signal strength in my area is fine, I live in a large city with plenty of mobile coverage, I might ask EE for a new sim card see if that helps

by the way: LTE und 4G: Was sind eigentlich die Unterschiede?

Hi I am so confused. I have a Samsung 9 plus with iodeOS. Our 3G is closing end of March. My phone shows LTE and 3G. I have phone on LTE mode but I keep getting messages from my provider that I need to change my phone. Can someone explain why my phone company says that I won’t be able to use this phone anymore and that I have to get a phone with 4G +:pensive_face:

Are we talking about a Galaxy S9+? This device does not have a modem for 5G. For 4G (that is LTE), it could theoretically work, but often there is restrictions through the carrier or the operating system, here iodéOS. If you go to settings, do you have the possibility to choose LTE/VoLTE?

In this list of devices that are supported by iodé, you will see a lot of red “no” for the Samsung devices.

  • Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) will be necessary to make calls once your carrier shuts down 2G/3G.
  • Voice-over-LTE (calling technology) is not the same as simple 4G/LTE (data network).
  • Not all devices were built to use VoLTE, especially older ones.
  • Not all VoLTE-capable devices are necessaily certified for VoLTE with every carrier in every country.
  • Your carrier recognizes your device as a Samsung S9, which apparently, as a device model, did not incorporate VoLTE functionality on their network… Maybe?
  • Your carrier doesn’t know which operating system your phone is running; they only know the device model. (By its IMEI, which is visible to the network.)
  • Most important: the current situation with Samsungs is that ALL Samsungs lose VoLTE functionality as soon as a custom ROM is installed (even if they were VoLTE-capable before). This is due to some proprietary Samsung firmware that can’t yet be replicated or added into custom ROMs.
  • You will need to get a different (non-Samsung) phone, unless there is another network you can use, one that still has operational 2G or 3G.
  • Any new (non-Samsung) phone you choose will need VoLTE functionality on your chosen network. Confirm compatibility with them before buying.
  • Most, if not all, custom ROMs these days are built to include VoLTE functionality for an extensive list of networks, I think.

@Krissy642 unfortunately this above point is the “nail in the coffin” for you using a Samsung device for voice calls after your 3G network is discontinued.

As I understand it is a licensing thing that Samsung will not allow on custom ROMs, not just that it isn’t yet supported :frowning: I would appreciate anyone with an official Samsung reference to clarify this, however, as I currently just repeat what I have learned here

Sorry for this bad news.

Thank you to all of you who responded to my query. Makes sense to me now, especially how Taurus has explained. When I got a message from my network, they only wrote the device model.

Looks like I have to buy a new device.:blush::pensive_face:

One more question, is it OK if I used windows 10 to install iodeOS on a new device? I am not willing to upgrade to 11 after listening to Rob Braxman.

So grateful for this community. I wish you a great success.

Yes, W10 is fine as long as you install the needed Android USB drivers for your new device: https://developer.android.com/studio/run/oem-usb for non-Google phones or https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb for Pixels.

Hi Iode team

I have installed iode OS on a pixel 7.

The internet kept playing up and the phone kept disconnecting during download. I am not sure if I have corrupted the phone?

It didn’t complete the final stage cleanly. I can see the iode OS 7.3 but when I go to reboot mode it pauses for a bit then I see a white “google” screen.

Please can someone let me know if I have bricked the phone and it cannot be fixed. Thanks for your help.

Thank you so much :slightly_smiling_face:

I am a bit uncertain if in the end you were able to boot correctly? Or is it still getting “stuck” maybe on the “Google splash screen”?

Hi thanks for responding to my query. It is stuck on google splash. I tried to flash back to android but it could not find device….Bluetooth unable to see device:pensive_face::pensive_face: don’t know what to do. I can access fastboot though. Any advice? Thanks :folded_hands::blush:

Need help again. I managed to reinstall stock android and successfully install iodeOS. I did lock the bootloader. ( not sure if it was OK to do it)

It starts and says “ device is starting with new operating system” then goes into fastboot mode.

Bootloader re-locking is supported on the Pixel 7, so this should be fine.

Can you explain how you reflashed stock (flash.android.com)? Then you used the iodéOS graphical installer or manual process?

It may be that you have triggered a “rollback protection” as I see that the newest Google image has a March patch level, and possibly that will be newer than iodé 7.3 has integrated. So please flash this version of stock Android that has their previous patch level and then re-attempt iodéOS install.

Hi Rik thanks for responding, :folded_hands: I downloaded android 15 from the site then upgraded to 16 before installing iodeOS via the installer. I have pixel 7 but on the installer it shows up as 7 pro.

I have made several attempts but to no avail. I tried to do it manually but not used to using linux. Do you have a step by step guide using Linux Ubuntu LTS?

Thank you for your advice will try the stock android again. Will so many attempts not damage the phone? I am not sure what I am doing but it has worked so far except iode OS :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: thanks again
