I’ve been interested in custom ROMs long before the Fairphone. The HTC HD2 was my entry into Android-based smartphones. The idea that phones only last two years, the duration of a typical phone contract, never appealed to me. Today’s modern phones have more than enough power to function for at least 6-8 years. I usually manage four to five, sometimes even six years. The right to control my data has also always been a concern of mine. Long story short, I like the work of iodeOS as a compromise for end-of-life devices. Otherwise, I only use one current model, the Poco F6 Pro, with the EU ROM. The Mi 10T Pro is my secondary device, running iodeOS Beta. Previously, I had two Mi 9s with iode Beta. My wife and I also use two Samsung tablets: one SM-T733FE with iodeGSI, and the other still running EvolutionROM based on Android 16. An old Samsung S9, which I received as a defective device and repaired (it had a swollen battery), will be given to my brother next week so he can try out iodeOS. He ordered a Fairphone 6 many months ago and is waiting patiently…

Ich habe mich schon lange vor dem Fairphone für Custom-ROMs interessiert. Das HTC HD2 war mein Einstieg in Android-basierte Smartphones. Die Vorstellung, dass Handys nur zwei Jahre halten, also die Dauer eines typischen Mobilfunkvertrags, hat mir nie gefallen. Die modernen Handys von heute haben mehr als genug Leistung, um mindestens 6-8 Jahre zu funktionieren. Ich schaffe in der Regel vier bis fünf, manchmal sogar sechs Jahre. Das Recht, über meine Daten zu bestimmen, war mir auch schon immer wichtig. Kurz gesagt, ich mag die Arbeit von iodeOS als Kompromiss für Geräte am Ende ihrer Lebensdauer. Ansonsten benutze ich nur ein aktuelles Modell, das Poco F6 Pro, mit dem EU-ROM. Das Mi 10T Pro ist mein Zweitgerät, auf dem iodeOS Beta läuft. Zuvor hatte ich zwei Mi 9 mit iode Beta. Meine Frau und ich verwenden außerdem zwei Samsung-Tablets: eines ist ein SM-T733FE mit iodeGSI, das andere läuft noch mit EvolutionROM auf Basis von Android 16. Ein altes Samsung S9, das ich als defektes Gerät erhalten und repariert habe (es hatte einen aufgeblähten Akku), werde ich nächste Woche meinem Bruder geben, damit er iodeOS ausprobieren kann.
