WhatsApp "waiting for this message. this may take a while."

Hi everyone, I’ve been using iodé for about a month now but didn’t have anything to ask about till now. My wife is using a oneplus 13r for a few weeks and everything was working fine. But just yesterday her WhatsApp started giving the error

“waiting for this message. This may take a while. “

It appears every time someone sends her a message, but the message never comes. And when she sends a message it shows the little clock symbol that means it hasn’t been sent yet.

This morning she updated to 7.5 from 7.4 but that didn’t help. Made sure everything was up to date (aurora store, microG, WhatsApp.) That didn’t help. Tried uninstalling and downloading from the official WhatsApp website and that didn’t help either. She has the 2.26.21.76 version.

I don’t have WhatsApp installed on my phone, but that’s what she uses to message her family, and some close friends.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, I’ve tried to look around but I didn’t find anyone talking about this problem with custom Roms, just problems with the initial setup / registration.

Just for your information. Apparently, WhatsApp is currently blocking phone numbers that run on alternative operating systems (like iodeOS, GrapheneOS, etc.).

I’m not receiving any messages anymore, and I can’t send any either (I just see one check mark).

Okay, well thanks for letting me know. I figured since it was working then randomly stopped that maybe something updated or changed that I didn’t know about. But at least now I know so we can work around it. I’m still very new to everything, slowly learning though. :slightly_smiling_face:

Since when? I was still receiving WhatsApp messages four days ago. But then my smartphone overheated and shut down, and after restarting it, the iodé Blocker stopped working. So I reset the system and now have to set up WhatsApp again. I should probably just do without it, so my number doesn’t get blocked. Are you sure we’re talking about alternative operating systems and not WhatsApp mods? WhatsApp mod users do, of course, get blocked.

Not true for me. WhatsApp running fine on LineageOS for microG - sending & receiving

Thanks for your feedback. I’ll go ahead and set up WhatsApp again in the next few days.

I am rooted and use Whatsapp Enhancer (which is forbidden by metas TOS) and it still works perfectly fine. :man_shrugging:

That’s not a mod from a shady mod-site. These mods seem to me very dead.

Not sure what you mean, WAEnhancer is an up-to-date OpenSource XPosed module, hosted on github, including the source-code. There is nothing shady about that. It injects features into the latest original whatsapp-app without modding it.

However, the point I was trying to make is, that I have a modified system and even violate meta’s TOS and still it is working fine for me. So I wouldn’t expect having iodeOS alone should cause issues.

Well the plot thickens, so it’s still doing the same thing, except for 2 contacts that she can get and send messages too. Even in a larger chat everyone’s messages have that error except for those 2 people.

We’ve never used anything other then the stock WhatsApp app.:person_shrugging:

It’s baffling. Someone brings up the Xposed module ‘WhatsApp Enhancer’ as an argument to refute the claim that WhatsApp mods are being blocked, and then I make clear that I’m referring to mods from shady sites (i.e. those APKs from e. g. Telegram groups) and not the open-source Xposed module (“That’s not a mod from a shady mod site”), and yet this person still wants to discuss with me?

Btw.: I now use WhatsApp again on iodéOS and have no problems. I don’t use any of that mods or the Xposed module.

You are aware that I didn’t talk to you with this answer? I am not even disagreeing with you. Here is the relevant quote:

So I wouldn’t expect having iodeOS alone should cause issues.

iodeOS alone = no mod = no disagreement with you

BTW, I started my answer with “I am not sure what you mean”, this implies there might be a misunderstanding (and there was one indeed), not sure why you have to answer in such a passive aggressive and rude manner and talk to me by calling me “this person”, wtf. :man_facepalming:

Welcome @Blueshadow! I don’t have issues with Whatsapp send or receive, also on an unofficial iodéOS 7.5 build as are your devices.

Do you have WhatsApp permissions granted (long press icon > AppInfo > Permissions), and do you have “Cloud Messaging” (“Google Firebase” but alas it is needed for push notifications) enabled in “System Settings > System > microG”?

Or: If you don’t want to use Cloud Messaging (but instead WebSocket): Do you have uninstalled microG before you installed WhatsApp? If microG is installed, WhatsApp refuses to use WebSocket, even microG isn’t properly set up.
