OK I’ve worked out why this was happening: the 5.23 builds were made on a different server from previous builds, and that server was not setting the OTA_URL environment variable correctly. The problem will not arise with the 5,24 builds because they were build on a server where the the OTA_URL environment variable is set correctly.

PS You won’t see any OTA updates until you manually install a version that is not 5.23.

I updated my two XZ1C devices via the updater, it worked like a charm, thanks! 
However, I noticed that the updater doesn’t gave me a notification that a new version of the ROM is available. I needed to open the updater app manually and only saw then that there is the upgrade. Do you guys get a notification? I allowed all permissions for the updater app.
I don’t recall seeing a notification. But our builds just include whatever is in the upstream code so, whatever the behaviour is in the LIneageOS and LineageOS for microG ROM’s is what you’ll get in this iodéOS build
Luckily I shut down my phone every night.
I get the notification when I turn it on in the morning. But if I don’t turn it off and on, I don’t have any notification
Good point I am not certain if our OTA update process for unofficial builds will prompt or not based on the “auto updates check” frequency, it may need a bit more testing.
The new OTA update arrived and I’ve done it. Everything works well.

Regarding notifications of the update app: It is a bit strange, I shut down my main device every night and reboot it and I did not get any update notification. However, I noticed in my old XZ1C that has a display damage and that I only use as backup device now there was a notification for July OTA. Very strange.
I tried now to reinstall the Updater app on my main device.
