When using the recorder app with my fairphone 4 there is no option to decide the input device (bluetooth or internal mic) it is always the internal microphone.
I expect it to always use the bluetooth mic if connected.
When calling with the calls app, the bluetooth mic is used.
When calling with signal or whatsapp, the internal is used as well.
My bluetooth headset is a Sony WF-1000XM5.
Device is FP4 running iodeOS 6.10

You can use the “recorder app” and brush your finger over the bluetooth mic and the phone mic to see which one is being used. Please report your phone, phone OS version, and bluetooth device used in testing.
It did not help though to use any of the available..? I guess that the mic is used for aptX only, as I remember it working a while a go with a different headset?

I would guess (??) this to be a bug / issue with the specific headset, do you have any other bluetooth headsets to test with?
Possibly some searching on Lineage OS Sony WF-1000XM5 would yield some results with a bit better sleuthing than my quick search came up with (I see some comments for other devices and other headsets).
For testing I am using “Record Equalizer* where I can also select the input source. Here, I see that the microphone of the headset when selected does not yield any input.
I already searched the issues of Lineage without any results. Where would I address this issue for iodéOS? Which GitLab repo would be appropriate?
I can confirm this issue (tested with default “Recorder” app and Signal voice message), on a Pixel 7 Pro and Sennheiser PXC 550ii. This may be a system wide bug possibly. Any other users please give a test to see if the “Recorder” app will only use the phone mic. You can simply brush your finger around the headset mic and phone mic to see which one responds.
Probably it makes sense to also ask the opposite question: is there anyone, who has the microphone of a Bluetooth headset working with the recorder app?
@rik It seems like this thread is not getting much love. However, it seems that we have a systemic issue here. Could you please open an issue in GitLab to address this problem? I bet, it is something small.
I got several replies that bluetooth mic is working correctly for phone calls (in fact no one had issues). But the “Voice Recording” app did always default to the device mic. So ??
Well, I suspect a bug here. I did not yet upgrade to the newest version which was released these days. Could you please check if this version fixes the problem, @rik ?
I am traveling so won’t be able to check for a week. But also did you check the Bluetooth settings for the connected device to make sure it is allowed to be used for phone calls?
Just tested this with a few different phones and different bluetooth headsets. Cellular, Signal, and WhatsApp voice calls all correctly use the bluetooth headset mics in all tests, but all other apps (multiple recorder apps, Merlin bird app, etc.) all use the phone mic, not the bluetooth mic. Even with Signal or WhatsApp, if in a chat I hit the mic icon to make a voice message, only the phone mic is used.
This will need testing at the LineageOS level to sort out how deep the bug is. @petefoth any chance you can test this? (see if a bluetooth headset mic can be used in any non phone call scenario by any app)?
Interesting, it does not work for me with Signal. Which version of iodéOS did you check? I’m particularly interested in Signal, which does not work on my OnePlus 9 with iodéOS 7.6.
The low tech way is to brush your finger over the mic on your phone and on your earpiece and see which one makes the most noise . To test calls vs other apps I think you will need a 2nd phone to call or a patient volunteer.
