that sim card has now expired so i’m not sure if it makes difference with IMS.
Three UK (it never had 2G & killed 3G),
expired plan usually allow receiving SMS, but it also cannot receive SMS.
anyway, following are an error message & the IMS stuff.

Yes, this long-awaited technical innovation—VoLTE and Wi-Fi—should be available, because the best-selling and popular Samsung Galaxy S9(+) / Note9 smartphone family, released in March 2018, is still widely used today. /e/ Murena has also released a /e/OS 4.1.1 big upgrade (A15 official build) for the starlte and star2lte.

By the way: The seven-year-old Galaxy S10e (beyond0lte), released in March 2019, gained VoLTE and Wi-Fi with the iodéOS 7.7 build.

This is actually revolutionairy! 🥳 Why so low-key about this? This deserves at least a new thread (imho) since this is the first time it’s working on IodéOS (7.7) for a Samsung.
After years of having to deal with no data connection while calling, it now “just” works.

Just successfully tested on a S10e (SM-G970F) in the Netherlands, provider: Simpel / Odido (MCC:204 MNC:16)

This makes thousands of Samsung phones overnight future-proof and finally IMS/VoLTE compatible!
I hope my A52 will follow soon 😇

Thanks Iodé and all involved!

@B24 Whether VoLTE works also depends on your carrier and your SIM plan. The only way to be sure is to test your Galaxy under your specific conditions. Everything else is just theory, wishful thinking, and speculation.

I have tried VoWifi unsuccessfully - Samsung s10e with iode 7.7. My Sim is with operator Free in France. At home I have good mobile coverage. In the settings for Sim I see options to enable Volte and VoWifi and can make a WiFi call. There are regular clicks in my earpiece / speaker but not heard at the other end.

Now at my friend houses where she has no mobile access, when I turn the phone on (overnight I turnoff to save battery), I cannot call by WiFi. The phone shows no IMS registration. The settings do not show Volte / VoWifi options available.

With a Samsung s22 runing official google android 14, at fresh power on, the same Sim shows the VoWifi option and I can make calls.

Today I was out. When connected to the mobile network I enabled wifi calling. On arrival at my friends house, wifi connected but no mobile coverage, I could not make a call. Seems like wifi calling is only operational when you have a mobile connection… at least with operator Free in France

Just to add my experience here: I installed 7.7 on my S10e (G970N) with a Tello SIM in the U.S. (Tello is an mvno on the T-Mobile network) I can confirm VoLTE and Wifi Calling are both working.

At first I was having a lot of trouble with mobile signal loss. It turned out that Tello uses only LTE, so whenever the signal got weak and my phone tried to switch to GSM, it just lost signal completely. To work around this, I entered \*#\*#INFO#\*#\*, Phone Info, Data & Network, and ‘Set preferred network type’ to ‘LTE Only.’ So far so good!

Thanks so much to the devs who are working on this! iode 7.7 is a game changer for my phone. On top of the privacy, it’s faster than stock and almost doubles battery life in my case. Thanks to your work, I don’t have to go back to stock.

There has been **NO GSM / 3G** in the USA since about 2022. You may be able to set it to LTE/NR or essentially 4G/5G if you want to use 5G as well.

T-mobile had some 2G/2.5G until very recently, but I think it’s all gone now.

Thanks. I’ve only moved back to the US recently, so I didn’t know they had phased out GSM already. Unfortunately I don’t have the 5G variation of the S10e, but I’ve been running in LTE only mode for several days now with good results. I did notice some audio pops during calls, both on bluetooth and on the handset itself. Still, I’m really happy to be able to make calls at all!

yes but it was spotty in many areas (with all sorts of handoff issues with some towers just hanging the whole telephony stack) even when not officially shut down: it is what forced me to leave behind Ubuntu Touch and join the good people here (well not the only issue… but for my “daily driver” at least).

@rik
i’ve recently changed to EE (UK) network.
1st screenshot, “4G Calling” is turned on.
2nd screenshot, it says Voice network type: LTE ,
5th screenshot, under IMS, it says Voice over LTE: Unavailable

Only one of Voice over Wifi or Voice over LTE will be available at any one time. This is due to your “Wifi calling” preferences. If you disconnect your wifi, you should see that VoLTE will activate.
