I helped my friend to install IodeOS 7.5 on their Samsung Galaxy S10 a while ago and hit several walls during the process. Ultimately we managed to get it working but it was a 3h process with all the hurdles. Thought I’d share the things I noticed, perhaps it can help someone, and perhaps [the official instructions](https://gitlab.iode.tech/ota/ota#s10-s10e-s10) can be updated after verification.

Below you can find the instructions as they stand today, with my comments. It’s been a month or so, but I did my best trying to remember everything 😃

# S10, S10e, S10+

1. Unlock OEM in developer settings

**→ After resetting the phone, it had to be online to make this option visible. See e.g. [https://xdaforums.com/t/no-bootloader-oem-unlock-option.3926688/](https://xdaforums.com/t/no-bootloader-oem-unlock-option.3926688/)**

1. Activate adb and type `adb reboot bootloader`, or shut down phone and press `Vol- + Bixby` while plugging to computer

**→ The first option (`adb reboot bootloader`) did not get us to the correct screen, we had to use the second option (`Vol- + Bixby`).**

1. In Download Mode (DL), long press `Vol+` and unlock bootloader

2. Reboot to DL mode & flash [recovery for S10](https://gitlab.iode.tech/ota/release/-/tree/master/beyond1lte) | [recovery for S10e](https://gitlab.iode.tech/ota/release/-/tree/master/beyond0lte) | [recovery for S10+](https://gitlab.iode.tech/ota/release/-/tree/master/beyond2lte) with command: `heimdall flash --RECOVERY <recovery_filename>.img`

**→ Had to install heimdall first. Could be mentioned in the beginning a prerequisite?**

**→ Now these last parts (or 4 and 7 specifically) caused perhaps the strangest hickups, but unfortunately I can’t remember how they went exactly. I think this heimdall flashing “stopped” at 47%, which was a bit concerning, but turns out it was fine (like here [https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/af12lu/comment/edvwaex/](https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/af12lu/comment/edvwaex/)) .**

1. As soon as the flash of recovery ends, quickly press `Power + Vol+ + Bixby` buttons altogether to directly reboot to recovery

**→The _quickly_ part should perhaps be highlighted, although of course best practise is to read the next step before committing to the current one.**

1. From recovery =\> Factory reset =\> Format Data/factory reset

2. From recovery =\> Apply update =\> Apply from ADB =\> `adb sideload <rom.zip>` ([iodéOS for S10](https://gitlab.iode.tech/ota/release/-/tree/master/beyond1lte) | [iodéOS for S10e](https://gitlab.iode.tech/ota/release/-/tree/master/beyond0lte) | [iodéOS for S10+](https://gitlab.iode.tech/ota/release/-/tree/master/beyond2lte))

**→ The first time I did this the transfer completed saying something like “Total xfer: 1.00x”, but I wasn’t following what the phone said, so I assumed it was fine. I booted the phone and gave up after half an hour.**

**I tried this part again and this time it got to something like “Total xfer: 1.76x” and the phone didn’t give any errors. The phone booted into Iode succesfully. What a relief!**

Hopefully these can help someone avoid issues and know what to expect 🙂

I succeeded in flashing iodé onto an S10, after much pain. The key change was to use Odin.

I’ve created normie-friendly instructions - where should they go? Is there someone in this community to tag, who deals with the website/instructions side of things?

That’s great! I wrote to iode support some time ago and got the response: “Installation instructions you can either report them on our community forum or directly to me and I will pass to the dev team.” Chose to do it here so that it can already serve someone 🙂
