My description is being pasted in as HTML and not displaying normally.
I have recently installed IodeOS on an older Oneplus 9. The OS seems to behave normally for the most part, but within a day or two I started having uncommanded shutdowns. I would take the phone out of my pocket and it would be off, even though I know I did not shut it off; or just today I was actively using it when the screen suddenly went dark. That time, all the buttons were unresponsive and I could not immediately reboot (I tried an hour later and it rebooted successfully.) I successfully ran a 7.7->7.8 update but that has not solved the problem. I am going back and forth on whether this is a hardware or software problem, but it was not doing this when it was running the old stock OS, so the OS change must have made it worse if it is somehow a hardware issue. The battery has been reading 60-95% during these antics. The only account of a comparable issue I can find was on a Fairphone, but that thread seems to contain no real information. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
For several devices there were upstream kernel updates that triggered this behavior. I don’t recall seeing OnePlus 9 reports of this problem but will notify our lead developer to check into it.
So if the kernel is somehow incompatible with the device, does that mean that all Lineage-derived systems will likely do the same thing? The Oneplus 9 has been my primary phone for five years and I was hoping to squeeze another few years out of it, but it is alas unfit for that purpose in its current condition and I am limping along on an old 12-year-old spare phone while I try to resolve this matter. Is there an older version of the OS that does not have the suspect kernel updates that I could somehow roll back to, or am I completely up a creek here and looking at buying a new phone? Some clarity here would be much appreciated, and if my son’s Oneplus 13 is likely to have the same problem, I need to know that also.
Kernel reverts are done by our lead developer as part of the build process for new releases. Far from “not being supported anymore” it is this type of support that we provide to keep your device working into the future
Personally, I have a OnePlus 9 with 7.9 beta and don’t experience any issues like this but never gave it a serious test with 7.8. Also note it is not my primary phone, however I have kept it running constantly - but mostly idle - for more than 2 days with no shutdowns.
It would be best if we can get feedback from any other OnePlus 9 users if they are experiencing issues like this, I will send a message to the beta tester group to inquire.
