No focus in camera apps after update 7.8

Device: Sony Xperia 5 IV
Iode unofficial 7.8

Since the update to 7.8, none of the camera apps can focus on nearby objects anymore.
No matter what program you use, it’s always the same: a slight pump, but no focus.

@petefoth and @Russian_Spy_Bear you are my “go to” Sony advocates: any confirmation of this issue (for this device only or maybe with other Sony devices)?

I’ve got an Xperia 10 V with IodéOS installed. It’s currently updating from 7.4 to 7.8 and I’ll try to check this out when that’s done. I don’t really use cameras much: basically just ‘point and press’, so please let me know what to do to reproduce this issue

just try to focus on something in the range up to 1 meter, no chance to get it sharp.

I don’t have a phone with 7.8 in stock at the moment rik with which to check it out. Has been mostly all older models for me this past couple of months. Of the Sony’s I have in stock for flashing is only a 5 iii that will get 7.8 but I’m waiting for one I bought on ebay with a busted screen to come in because it needs a replacement processor.

Works fine here, using default camera (org.lineageos.aperture)

Items closer than ~10cm don’t focus, but I think that’s normal

That’s what I get, if I tap to focus, it is shortly visible but ends up like this :slightly_frowning_face:

You could try installing the Aperture app from the ioDroid repository as a temporary fix. I’ve installed it on a couple of Sony’s and found it to be very good, but bear in mind I’m also a point and shoot guy same as Pete Foth.

the above picture was taken with the Aperture app, also tried OpenCamera and Sony Photography Pro, all worked fne with 7.7

Hi

Can you try to revert to 7.7 to see if the problem persists? It might be a bad coincidence that something has happened to your camera(s) ?!

If I’m not mistaken you have A/B partitions (as most SONYs) so 7.7 should theoretically still be available on your phone…

Good-luck!
