Did you see this?: https://walt.is
Any opinions? Could be nice, though nothing is as nice as cash still…
There even is a beta for the more skilled ones then me. But not on f-droid it seems!
Looks intresting.
This should be watched.
But I would need some technical reviews before I trust the app. ![]()
Yes. Both ![]()
I’m very keen on that. Let’s see what comes from it
And will not in the future:
“Walt’s main app is closed source.” (github)
Yep, that’s why it could be, that this wallet comes too late anyway, at least for my country.
I live in Germany, and the release for the app is planned for mid-2027( Updates - Walt ).
Most likely WERO will then be supported by most major banks here and hopefully also by most European (online) shops. It would be nice, because right now, I am forced to pay mostly by PayPal or credit card, even if WERO is already possible. My bank is in the launch phase by now.
But maybe my bank screws it up, so that it doesn’t work with a custom ROM. ![]()
Maybe it’s my age but I don’t see what value this adds when you can tap with a credit card or pay cash.
I would find it nice to have at least the option to pay via phone.
But it is not needed.
Besides, it is another security risk.
Tapping by CC is no less convenient IMO.
Convenience can be a real advantage ie pay for fuel at the pump vs queuing in the office, but I just don’t see it with this.
I always carry cash, at least £50, shop terminals break and banking systems crash but cash always works.
My bank already knows everything about me, I have opted out of information sharing with third parties, I see no reason for a privacy conscious person to involve another “man in the middle” just to pay by phone or watch.
If my bank created their own app I would consider that.
I use Curve Pay for contactless payments via my smartphone. You need to link a credit card to the service, and you can then make contactless payments of up to 200 euros a month free of charge using your smartphone. If you spend more than that, a small percentage is charged.
And: It works with iodé.
Has anyone had any experience with this? What are people’s views on it?
I also use Curve Pay, which works with iodéOS. However, I understand that there is no limit on payments made in the same currency as the registered card. The limits of €200 (withdrawals) and €250 (payments) apply to foreign currencies.
In fact, this isn’t ideal when abroad because all payments go through Curve, so even with a card that doesn’t normally charge fees, Curve will add its own charges (once the limit is exceeded). For this kind of use, Walt could be a real advantage.
Personally, I really like using mobile payments as they aren’t limited to a maximum of €50 like my card is. And as you have to authenticate the transaction, it also prevents accidental payments being made via the card without you realising.
