More eSIM problems - no connection since 7.8 update

The eSIM that I got working in my Pixel 8 last month has stopped getting a data connection since the update to 7.8 and/or OpenEUICC 1.7.2-iode.18. The eSIM registers and displays as two separate connections in the top bar, but doesn’t show any signal strength and doesn’t receive calls or text messages. I have transferred the eSIM to a Pixel 7 running the recent release of CalyxOS and that works correctly, showing a 5G signal and signal strength.

Check if the APN settings are good, it might get overwritten by an update.

Deleting the eSIM from my Pixel 7 and installing it back on my Pixel 8 has restored the connection without adding the APN. I’ve added the APN just in case.

EDIT: It isn’t working, it was showing signal in the top bar but isn’t now.

I’ve just bought an eSIM from Lycamobile (also EE) and it’s worked following a reboot. That solves the issue for me, as I just want another data SIM on a separate network.

I did wonder whether, as someone mentioned in another thread, an eSIM can only be registered once on a device, but I’ve just reinstalled the eSIM that I can’t get working on my Pixel 8 on my Pixel 7 and it’s reconnected without any issues. That does make me think that it’s an OpenEUICC issue again.

Were you able to check the APN settings and cross-reference them with your working phone? I would still suspect these instead of OpenEUICC (which registers the eSIM only, and it seems you were registered just no data?)

The APN has been set on the Pixel 7 to ‘spusu’ and ‘web’, which I manually set on the Pixel 8. I also tried the default EE APN just in case. The SIM did seem to be registering in as much as there was a reception strength indicator in the top bar but the actual SIM data shows ‘No service’ and doesn’t display the phone number, where it had done pre-update.

Given now that I’ve got a Lycamobile eSIM and it’s showing full strength in the indicator where I have been struggling for a month with the Spusu eSIM would seem to point to Spusu but as I say, it worked for a while between coming back from Wales, where the phone signal was poor at the best of times, and applying the 7.8 update, where it hasn’t worked since.

I will try and get in touch with Spusu but I’m not confident that they will be able to resolve connection issues.

I’m also having problems with my Pixel 8 and eSIMs. I haven’t used an eSIM for quite some time, but it worked fine last year in Canada via Airalo. However, I’m currently on holiday, so I bought an eSIM from Airalo. It activated without any issues. Unfortunately, once I arrived, I realised that whilst I had a signal, I had no data connection. I’ve tried everything, including the APN settings and a 2 our session with there support. Nothing has helped. Even an eSIM from the competitor, Saily, doesn’t work.
In the end, I had to get a physical SIM from the airport. Unfortunately, I can’t use dual SIM now.
There are definitely issues with the current version 7.8 of iode when used with the Pixel 8 and eSIMs.
I’m happy to try things out or document them via logs if anyone has any ideas.

Linking to another thread on Pixel and eSIM issues (but theirs is related to registration failure).

In your case, are you still in Canada where you can re-test that eSIM? I would appreciate a re-confirmation of what your APN settings are in the non-working eSIM and with the working physical SIM (also Airalo?).

Also there is this older one related to a Pixel8 and eSIM not sure if worth a try:

I’m currently in South Korea. My Canadian SIM card expired last year. I can’t test the new South Korean SIM card from Airalo as I’ve had a refund for it. However, I still have the Saily eSIM, which I’d be happy to test. What screenshots should I take for you?
The physical SIM card I currently have is from a local provider but uses the same network of SK Telecom.

I have activated the Saily eSIM; the physical SIM at the bottom is deactivated.

You can also see the Saily Net at the top

However, a data connection cannot be established.

The Saily app recognises this too.

And it says I need to configure the APN.

Whether editing existing ones…

… Or create a new one. Nothing works.

The physical simulation works without any problems.
