- Device: any
- iodéOS Version: first attempted at 7.8, but affects every version
- Affected App(s): not applicable
Short Description:
Attempted to build iodeos following the instructions in README.md in the os/public/manifests/android repo in conjunction with the LineageOS build instructions at https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/husky/build. The repo sync command gave the error
Unable to remote fetch project lineage/frameworks_base
New Issue, Regression, or Feature Request?
Regression: a similar fetch in October 2025 found the missing repo
Additional Information:
The defaults.xml file in the os/public/manifests/android repo has the entry
<project path="frameworks/base" name="lineage/frameworks_base" groups="pdk-cw-fs,pdk-fs,sysui-studio" remote="iode" />
in every branch of os/public/manifests/android I tried. (I would have been more thorough but ran up against a rate limiter at gitlab.iode.tech–message “Retry later”.)
The remote= attribute of the project tag evidently refers to the remote tag in the same file with the name “iode”. That tag indicates to fetch repos from https://gitlab.iode.tech/os/public, where one should expect to find a lineage/frameworks_base repo. It’s not there.
The LineageOS upstream does include that repo on github, though there it’s called android_frameworks_base.
I can only presume that the iode fork of that repo contains changes not in the upstream; I can’t just substitute the LineageOS version and expect things to work properly.
I did not indicate the phone model under the Device: head above since the error occurred at a point in the build process before the selection of the target device is relevant.
A bit of background: I’m a retired software engineer who uses Gentoo Linux, so I am quite accustomed to and comfortable with building software. I tried the build process last year, but being pressed for time I stopped work on it–I had issues that arose later in the process than the repo sync step. So instead, I installed the fastboot package of iodeos on my Pixel 8 Pro, made some modifications, and moved on. Now that I have a 32GB build machine and more time, I’m trying again.
