Issues on Fairphone 5: Network, Dual-SIM

Hello,

I would like to report several bugs or if not, search for operating instructions.

Phone: Fairphone 5

Versions IodéOS 7.1, 7.0, 6.9, (7.1 still not very well tested)

Dual SIM operation with physical SIM and e-SIM

  1. Most important bug: Dual SIM operation primary SIM. Settings:
  • Network : SIM cards : Automatically switch SIM for data: on.
  • Network : SIM cards : Primary SIM : Mobile data: Physical SIM

This setting is changed arbitrarily; after leaving a Wi-Fi network or while bad connection, the other SIM is suddenly used and changed in the primary settings.

  1. Network : SIM cards : Mobile data on/off: This button can only be set for both SIM cards together! In the standard Android version, this is switched separately for each SIM card under Network : SIM cards : SIM ½. This is a very necessary item.

  2. Under Network : SIM cards : SIM 1/ 2 : Roaming: on/off. This switch does not work. The data connection is also used when roaming, on both SIMs. No effect at all.

  3. Network connection interruption causes the media volume to be set to 0. This means, for example, that every time you cross a national border, the volume is reduced to 0.

I am happy to help by answering questions, posting screenshots or conducting further tests.

Best,

dita

Today, I was able to test iodéOS 7.1 more thoroughly while driving, crossing borders and listening to media.

SIM 1 is the physical SIM, data SIM, Netherlands, roaming enabled. SIM 2 is the e-SIM, Germany, roaming disabled.

The allow roaming button is consistently ignored in both sim-settings. It seems that the SIM card that does not have a roaming connection tends to be preferred, even in Germany, where the other is set as a data SIM. Conversely, I can also manually establish a data connection with the German e-SIM without any problems (despite roaming being prohibited). What is interesting about the German e-SIM data connection is that both cards then display “5G”, but the data connection is on the physical NL SIM, only this one displays 5G.

This time, the volume reduction was independent of the data connection. I could not determine what caused it: the media app ‘TIDAL’, the Bluetooth connection or the data connection of anything els.

Sorry I haven’t been able to sort out the best way to respond: I do think these issues would be tied to upstream LineageOS bugs, I wonder if you can do a bit of research there? Issues · LineageOS / issues / android · GitLab

In the meantime let’s see if we can get any confirmations from other users to help isolate if this is a general issue with dual SIMs and enabling / disabling mobile data and roaming per SIM, or instead if maybe this is specific to a FP5?

Hello rik, hello everyone,

Thank you very much for your response!

  1. Issue:

I searched for LineageOS bugs and found one
    https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/issues/8304

I have also occasionally experienced the default data SIM changing after disconnecting from WiFi. However, this has not happened for quite some time now. I do not know whether this has been fixed in the newer version or whether it just happens to no longer occur.

Other issues mentioned remain. Here is the current status:

  1. Network: SIM cards : Mobile data on/off: This button can only be set for both SIM cards together! In the standard Android version, this is switched separately for each SIM card under Network: SIM cards : SIM 1 / 2. This is a very necessary item.

  1. Network: SIM cards : SIM 1/ 2 : Roaming: on/off. This switch has no (!) effect, on both SIM Cards. The data connection is also used with roaming-connection.

  1. Network connection interruption causes the media volume to be set to 0. This means, for example, that every time you cross a national border, the volume is reduced to 0.

Further observations: It occurs with any media apps, including those that play local files. It occurs when both SIM cards lose connection at the same time due to national borders. The media output was via Bluetooth. I will test whether it also occurs without a Bluetooth connection.

I am very interested in hearing about other experiences, including whether others have had problems like those described above. Thank you very much in advance for your time.
