Well, you have to add these repositories again. The settings are not taken from the old F-Droid.

Just a simple question: These days I got ioDroid on my FP3 (iodé 6.17). The F-Droid isn’t touched. Is it save to remove either of the two stores? In other words: Are the two stores completely separate? Including all settings, as I wrote in the post above?

Thanks, but I already did this. Since I reinstalled the apps, not sure if the problem still continues though.

Since the 2 apps use different name spaces (to prevent being able to have both installed) they are not able to read the other app’s settings to import them. So there wasn’t any way to migrate F-Droid settings to ioDroid.

You can keep F-Droid and ioDroid both installed, you can remove either or both as well as you please.

Actually, I just set up a new device and this is not on by default. But if you turn it on it fixes the app store conflicts EZ.

I think the hidden flag could be the reason for my problem, with the “Updater app” / “System Updates” for installing the update.

With my FP5 I didn’t had any trouble with the ioDroid app, but the “Updater app” were still installed after Update to 7.7 but the “System Updates” with its new Look feature didn’t work either.

> [@Iodé (7.7) - Problem with useless "Updater app" / "System Updater" - Workaround](https://community.iode.tech/t/iode-7-7-problem-with-useless-updater-app-system-updater-workaround/8638):

> Hello, I run into a perplexing problem. My device is a Fairphone 5. First, after a successful update from 7.6 to 7.7, I did not check the “Update App” immediately. I waited for it to open for 5 minutes. But of course, the changelog made me interested in to the new look and so I was looking forward to the “System updater”. But whatever I did, opening the app directly, going over the “News app,” or going over the “System Updates” in the system settings, it always opened the old “Updater app.” …

“ioDroid”.
I understand why you created this fork; if you keep it on, I would ask to create a setting that allows the user to restrict how many parallel downloads are allowed.
That missing option has been disturbing me for a long while in F-Droid and Aurora.

Now that 7.8 is out, I would like to come back to the situation regarding the ioDroid changes.

I am still on 7.6 since no one yet reported that the occuring problems have been sorted out.

Would highly appreciate some official comment on this matter!

(News app finally started notifying me, again, yeah!)

**EDIT:**

@rik , is there a how-to of dos and don’ts regarding the switch to ioDroid, yet? I am still hesistant … Also: Is it necessary to do 7.7 first and only then 7.8 or can one upgrade directly to 7.8 even when the big change was in 7.7?

No need for intermediate upgrades. Honestly the change isn’t that big or noticeable besides the name change for default users: it will simply have F-Droid replaced by ioDroid.

But for users that had custom F-Droid repositories or settings, etc. those settings would be lost: since that app ID changed they are different apps so no way to migrate settings from one to the next.

Lastly, until app updates are done one time for each app with ioDroid (instead of F-Droid), they will not install automatically but will just notify you the app updates are available. You tap the notification, then tap “update all” in ioDroid. The next time those apps have an update it will be installed automatically. This is again because of the app ID change.

Thank you! Will run a backup and then update today.
I currently have the iodé-repo and the Threema repo in F-Droid Standard.

I never update automatically, always manually.

I still use the K-9 Mail (did not switch to Thunderbird) - do you think this could be an issue?

You have to switch this in the settings. Default in ioDroid is auto-update.

Thanks for this warning! I could not find the settings for this. If I go via ioDroid → long press → App Info, there seems not to be any switch for the auto-update/manual update.

Couldn’t find anything in the settings either. Maybe just being blind 🕶

Thank you. The weird thing: if I search for “updates” in the settings, I only find **system updates** (off/manually, just as wanted) in the developer options.

Even if I am searching in German “Aktualisierung”, I find nothing.

EDIT: The cog wheel in ioDroid did the trick!

Thanks again for the hint! It is especially important since it would even download updates using mobile data (which I don’t have, but plan to buy in October, when travelling).

I am glad I have the forum here!
Also, because I would not have found out about the ioDroid otherwise. I did the update yesterday, got notifications from F-Droid that there were apps to be updated and did this. Then I waited for ioDroid to appear … (was hidden on the app’s overview, did not see it on my start page). I probably would not have found out about the new app store until very much later (out of data), since it wouldn’t hint me about app updates.

App updates like this are not related to the system so are just configured within the various stores (F-Droid, ioDroid, Aurora).

So did / does F-Droid remain installed?

Yes. It also still shows all the apps if I look into “installierte Apps verwalten” (manage installed apps)

Yes both apps can be used, but it can lead to possible confusion. If you update with F-Droid then auto-updates from ioDroid won’t happen until you manually install them 1 time, and vice versa. This is because they only update if the same app had previously installed them.

TL;DR (“Too Long; Didn’t Read”): you can uninstall F-Droid if you are happy with ioDroid.

Thank you. I won’t, have some third party repos in F-Droid that I want to keep.

When my Brax3 upgraded from iodéOS-7.6 to 7.7 with the new ioDroid, my third party repos transferred across automagically. The only thing I had to do was uninstall F-Droid as soon as I was satisfied with ioDroid (which was very quickly)
