This was one of the first things I noticed when setting up my new Brax3. Sure if I use WPA-n with a non-trivial password I shouldn’t need to worry about who is connected. But the option exists to run the hotspot “open”, with no password, and I might wish to use that sometimes.
I am not familiar enough with “stock Android” anymore to know how or where that is integrated for them, but it must not be at the AOSP level since it isn’t there in LineageOS.
So you can check with some ADB commands (not convenient, I know ), but maybe you can see if there is more out there that I didn’t find yet on this topic?
There are hundreds of Hotspot apps, but why bother when it’s already builtin …
I’ve found a couple of apps claim to show connected devices, but only if the app is running on another device connected to the hotspot;
a couple that require root;
the android shell command ip neigh apparently since A12 requires root.
The monitor and control feature is widespread on commercial “stock Android” devices, so omitting it from LOS must have been a deliberate design decision
Edit: According to a couple of Read Me’s the Android API for wifi scan now requires Location service to be running - presumably so Google can map wifi Access Points - so definitely a no-no for a de-Googled device
