Fossify Messages Won't Install

Hi all.

I was cleaning up some apps and removed Fossify Messages in the pre install app settings. When i realized my mistake, I added it back in the same. After rebooting as instructed, it says is installed, but I can not find it to add it to my home screen. I tried to install it from in Aurora Store. It downloads and the asks to update it. After which it still shows it needs to be installed. How do I restore it? Thank you in advance for your kind efforts.

Hi. Which device and which iodeOS do you run? BTW, did you try install it also from the F-Droid? Which language do you use on your system? Because, for example in my home language, the Fossify Messages is called absolutelly different name within the system, but the repistories on F-Droid still show it as Fossify Messages.

Thanks for the reply. I have a Brax3 phone and I tried to install it from both stores. Just can’t figure out why it is not showing up in the list when I swipe up. It does show in the Settings/Apps list.

I am in the US, language is English

OK, so the language is not the main issue. As I have read in the formus, some people met similar problems with uninstalling and reinstalling system apps on different versions of iodeOS before. If I do remeber correctly, one of the sollutions was clean reinstallment of OS. But it usually means to wipe off any already stored data on the phone.

In the past, I was also thinking about purchasing Brax3 phone, but at the end I did cancel the purchase, because the more unique the phone is (not sold globaly in big numbers) the worse is its support. So I ended with Pixel5 and flashed iode on it myself. Very happy with my decision.

Second this.
I had a backup from CalyxOS and went to iodéOS. Tried to run the backup too soon in the process. Flashed iodéOS a second time, this time skipping the “have a backup?” step and installing the system. THEN restored only the few apps which contained personal data (Mail, etc.). Worked like a charm.

Flash again, let iodéOS install its apps, then restore the data from your messenger.

Thanks for the replies. I was really hoping to not do a fresh install.

It shouldn’t be necessary to re-install. If you can mark them as “installed” in the “Preinstalled Apps”, then I think at next update to the system they will be back as a worst case scenario. If you already updated to v6.7 (released very recently), then possibly you can manually apply the OTA update on top of itself using the “Updater” app and selecting “3 dots > Local update”. Find your OTA build here: ota / release · GitLab

I think there is a bug hiding here, not denying that. But you should not have to fully reinstall. More testing is needed in removing preinstalled apps, then attempting to re-add.

I was able to fix this by going to the preinstalled apps and hit the trash can. The message said it would be deleted on the next boot. So I rebooted. Then I did the same to reinstall it and rebooted. It is back. I must have missed a reboot at the right time. Thank you for time and suggestions

Thanks for the followup! I had tested this and had some confusion before on what the fix was, but yes this is the correct solution.

Please mark your answer as the “solution” for others.
