Hello,

I would like to report several bugs or if not, search for operating instructions.

Phone: Fairphone 5

Versions IodéOS 7.1, 7.0, 6.9, (7.1 still not very well tested)

Dual SIM operation with physical SIM and e-SIM

1. Most important bug: Dual SIM operation primary SIM. Settings:

- Network : SIM cards : Automatically switch SIM for data: on.
- Network : SIM cards : Primary SIM : Mobile data: Physical SIM

This setting is changed arbitrarily; after leaving a Wi-Fi network or while bad connection, the other SIM is suddenly used and changed in the primary settings.

1. Network : SIM cards : Mobile data on/off: This button can only be set for both SIM cards together! In the standard Android version, this is switched separately for each SIM card under Network : SIM cards : SIM ½. This is a very necessary item.

2. Under Network : SIM cards : SIM 1/ 2 : Roaming: on/off. This switch does not work. The data connection is also used when roaming, on both SIMs. No effect at all.

3. Network connection interruption causes the media volume to be set to 0. This means, for example, that every time you cross a national border, the volume is reduced to 0.

I am happy to help by answering questions, posting screenshots or conducting further tests.

Best,

dita

Today, I was able to test iodéOS 7.1 more thoroughly while driving, crossing borders and listening to media.

SIM 1 is the physical SIM, data SIM, Netherlands, roaming enabled. SIM 2 is the e-SIM, Germany, roaming disabled.

The allow roaming button is consistently ignored in both sim-settings. It seems that the SIM card that does not have a roaming connection tends to be preferred, even in Germany, where the other is set as a data SIM. Conversely, I can also manually establish a data connection with the German e-SIM without any problems (despite roaming being prohibited). What is interesting about the German e-SIM data connection is that both cards then display “5G”, but the data connection is on the physical NL SIM, only this one displays 5G.

This time, the volume reduction was independent of the data connection. I could not determine what caused it: the media app ‘TIDAL’, the Bluetooth connection or the data connection of anything els.

Sorry I haven’t been able to sort out the best way to respond: I do think these issues would be tied to upstream LineageOS bugs, I wonder if you can do a bit of research there? [Issues · LineageOS / issues / android · GitLab](https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/issues)

In the meantime let’s see if we can get any confirmations from other users to help isolate if this is a general issue with dual SIMs and enabling / disabling mobile data and roaming per SIM, or instead if maybe this is specific to a FP5?

Hello rik, hello everyone,

Thank you very much for your response!

1. Issue:

* * *

Other issues mentioned remain. Here is the current status:

* * *

1. Network: SIM cards : Mobile data on/off: This button can only be set for both SIM cards together! In the standard Android version, this is switched separately for each SIM card under Network: SIM cards : SIM 1 / 2. This is a very necessary item.

* * *

1. Network: SIM cards : SIM 1/ 2 : Roaming: on/off. This switch has no (!) effect, on both SIM Cards. The data connection is also used with roaming-connection.

* * *

1. Network connection interruption causes the media volume to be set to 0. This means, for example, that every time you cross a national border, the volume is reduced to 0.

* * *

I am very interested in hearing about other experiences, including whether others have had problems like those described above. Thank you very much in advance for your time.

No one else here with roaming issues?

No one misses the mobile data usage button?

Wouldn’t it be possible to actually report the bug? I mean, the missing mobile data usage button for the respective SIM cards is already obvious enough, isn’t it?

Hello again, I’ve started a new tests.
As a test, I set the data limit on the eSIM to 0 bytes. What is noticeable is that both connection symbols have exclamation marks and the message that the data volume has been used up keeps reappearing. I suspect this is because data volume is still being used via the other SIM. For this reason, and because mobile data cannot be switched on and off separately, I suspect that the two SIM cards are not consistently separated.

Regarding the issue of media volume dropping when the connection is lost, I could only observe this everytime with a Bluetooth connection.

Greets, dita

I am surprised we don’t have some replies here yet, it may be that users see “Fairphone 5” and they don’t read it, this issue does seem broader about Dual SIM in general. As I think the media volume issue is not related, I am going to adjust this title to remove Fairphone 5 (but keep that as a tag).

I wish I had a dual sim setup to test 🙂, I have a spare testing SIM but it is physical, and I don’t have a device that can handle 2 physical sims. I am not that enthused to convert the testing SIM to eSIM since I hope one day to run Linux on mobile again, but certainly this may be too much to ask of it 🙂

Hello kaliyi,

I can’t yet see what your described SMS problem has to do with the above-mentioned problems. This thread is about roaming in dual SIM mode. If it is related to this, please provide more information about the system and what you have already tried.
Mayby starting a new thread?
In terms of content: I would check whether roaming is enabled and check the SMS settings (SMS centre, etc.).

Any insights or updates?

The problem’s still the same at my phone.

It’s really annoying – I have to keep a close eye on my data usage to see which SIM is currently connected .

It’s a shame that no one is seriously testing it; it’s rather odd.

I have a strong suspicion: you need to activate the data connection on each network and then configure the necessary settings.

Something like this:

1. Activate data connection on SIM 1
2. Select primary data connection
3. Set roaming for both SIM cards (enable/disable)
4. Repeat the process with SIM 2
5. Repeat the process steps in the roaming country with both SIMs

I have installed Iode for the second time and each time the problem has improved over time. My assumption is therefore as above.

The Bluetooth issue did not occur again after the reinstallation.

Sorry we never got much feedback / testing from other dual sim users it seems you are leading the way to sort through this. It seems the issues would be at the LineageOS level, but as you see the issue you linked is closed as invalid… it sometimes helps to try their Reddit also, as it is a bit more interactive with feedback from others than the issue tracker. If you are willing, post to it asking if LineageOS users are willing to report on dual sim data roaming etc: [https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/](https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/)

Thanx for the links. If anyone wants to do that, I certainly won’t mind – quite the opposite, in fact. But as I’d have to check the sites first, open an account and so on, I won’t be able to do it for the time being. Feel free to copy, link to or use my posts – it’s no problem at all.

I’ve been trying to make some progress on this.

The Discord link doesn’t work; it just leads nowhere and gives an error message: “NO TEXT CHANNELS. You are in a strange place: either you do not have access to text channels, or there are none on this server.” I’m not really familiar with Discord either - which server to use and so on. The search didn’t turn up anything.

I’d put everything together on Reddit and got messages saying I wasn’t following the rules:

Rule 4: Do not post bug reports, Rule 5: Don’t ask for help with non-Lineage ROMs

Blimey, this is a real struggle…

Yes, it’s unfortunate that the LineageOS support channels can be very unfriendly and not very supportive, particularly if you are running anything other than official LineageOS .

I do have a dual-SIM phone, but only for very limited testing. It doesn’t have even one SIM in it at the moment, and even if it did I don’t live anywhere that I could usefully test roaming.

And the limited time I have available for ‘work’ on custom ROMs is pretty much fully taken up with keeping the LineageOS for microG project ticking over, and providing occasional support in this and other forums. Sorry, and good luck in your attempts to get this stuff working!

To return to the opening post of this thread, I would like to provide an update and summarise the current situation.

As I mentioned here, [Dual-SIM Issues: No way to individually manage mobile data and roaming settings? - #12 by DiTA](https://community.iode.tech/t/dual-sim-issues-no-way-to-individually-manage-mobile-data-and-roaming-settings/7467/12) the issue seems to have sorted itself out; you probably need to repeat these settings in every roaming area. I haven’t had any more problems with it.

I still miss this feature; whether it’s a bug or a missing feature may be open to debate.

News: In the second installation (a few months ago), and now with iodéOS 7.5, I used the same settings again – and to my surprise, no more problems! Very happy!

As I mentioned earlier, that was with the first installation and a different car (a Toyota Auris), and I no longer have any problems.

I’ll mark this as resolved for my part. Thanks to everyone who contributed their thoughts.
