spokey, please don’t try to flash iode at the moment and take heed of the instructions on google and calyx websites I provided the links for above.
You said your 8a is on the latest calyx build (May security patch and new incremented bootloader) therefore you cannot install anything that does not have the same new bootloader in the OS.
iode, as far as I know, will be based on April. Iode always takes a bit of time to catch up with the monthly google releases.
So if you sideload an “older” April security patch release your phone will change slots when you reboot and fail to boot.
You can check your calyx version in settings. If it’s 6.7.20 then it’s definitely latest.
Hi rik, I@m pretty sure iode latest releases will be on April security patch.
Google only posted up the new May builds on Tuesday, Calyx is usually amongst the first to get it into their roms and Lineage some time later. iode is usually some weeks later with their official releases.
Lineage will be releasing the May update for the 8a next week, see the changes here.
On further examination of Lineage downloads page for google pixels I notice that already they are pulling older builds for the 6 and 8 series phones. The pixel 8 pro also has a latest build that includes the new security patch.
I’m a bit of a rom hopper to be honest, but over the years I’ve found that I like a simple operating system best along with timely security updates (unecessary, but I can’t help myself!), and a few other tweaks that diy’ing can make possible.
So usually that’s LOS and I add Datura/Firewall from Calyx and microg from the good people at lineage4microg. Also I like the Trebuchet launcher better than any other, as the stock launcher.
Recently I’m also experimenting with adding a vendor/extra to the LOS sources and adding browser and sms app to replace the LOS stock apps. I get the idea from studying the iode sources and just trying things. Really I am very much a novice and don’t understand most of it!

Under settings in my phone, and then " About phone " it says my CalyxOS Version is this
6.6.23
Is this good and means I should be able to flash Iode os?
Like Rik said, he should have the build by the end of this weekend, so i follow the instructions he just said, and use his build, and it will work, No?
By the instrructions @rik posted I’m referring to these @chrisrg and my CalyxOS Version isn’t the one you said anyway?
"
As I mention in the lead post at the Unofficial builds for Google Pixel devices post:
For a new installation, you can read up on the LineageOS install instructions for your device, but as a general rule, first install the boot / recovery image using fastboot flash boot <iode-...-boot.img>
, then boot to Recovery Mode and use adb sideload <iode-...zip>
to install the actual image.
But, as @chrisrg notes, with the security patch level issues, it may not work well that way, I am a bit uncertain so would be happy for your feedback if you are willing to try it after I get the build uploaded. "
Thanks.
I did that a while back, when I moved away from /e/OS: I made custom builds of los4microg with some extra apps to emulate the /e/OS experience using updtream components instead of forks - see here for details (if you’re interested). I only stopped those builds when IodéOS opened their sources, and that’s what I would go back to (using sfX’s extendrom
project) if IodéOS ever went away

@petefoth will this work?
Yes. (You said you had latest though)
Double check by tapping on"Android15" on that settings page to make absolutely certain its April security patch.
Then you are good to go.
It says
Android version
15
CalyxOS Version
6.6.23
Android security update
5 April 2025.
Mainline module update
15
Is this all fine, and will work?
If so, can u refer me to the instructions here I follow, or tell me yourself?
So I need to go back to stock Android first?
Basically, what instructions I follow to successfully flash Iode os? Thanks.
@chrisrg
Can u tell me what instructions to follow? @petefoth @rik
Do I need to wait for @rik to release the new build, or what instructions should I follow now?
@chrisrg
I’m not repeating myself again. All the info is available above in one way or the other. I can’t say anything with absolute certainty without having the device to test. As far as I can remember it should be OK to install iode or Lineage over calyx, as long as you use the right partitions for flashing.
Let me try to explain something further though.
You first need to flash a recovery, as you know , because you have done this before.
The recovery needs to be older or equal in date to the recovery that is bundled in the target installation zip you are trying to install. To avoid the SPL error.
Hence use the Lineage stuff of an older date then iode (there don’t appear to be any at the moment older than roonz date)
Or extract the required .img’s from the installation zip you are trying to install.
When a new build installs it switches slots on your phone and comes complete with it’s own recovery.
Good luck.
@chrisrg will @rik walk in and disembody himself?
@chrisrg @rik I tried to flash my phone with Iode os, every time is getting to 47% I followed the instructions exactly, used Ronn build, and it either goes to a black screen after google logo appears, or i can only just go back to fastboot mode. I even put the phone to Android 14. Stock Android version. no google account.
I used the 6.3 build ronn sent me.
It says " Signature verification failed Install anyway? " I Press Yes, as the only other option is no.
Then it says " Istalling update… ERROR: Recovery: Current SPL: 2025/05/05 Target SPL: 2025-04-01 this is considered a downgrade ERROR: Rcovery: DENYING OTA Because it’s SPL downgrade.
Install completed with status 1. Installation aborted.
This is as far as it goes. I press reboot system now.
