Any tricks for switching from 5g to LTE only if option isn't showing

I need to get another phone. 5g is not available in my area, so if I get a 5g capable phone I will want to change settings to LTE only. (Both to conserve battery and because phones searching for 5g networks seem to have poor service in my neck of the woods, dropping calls etc.)

My understanding is that neither At&t nor Verizon networks is going to show the option to switch to LTE only. T-mobile would give the option, but coverage is spotty here.

Any simple way that I would be able to get to that setting or do I need to get a 4g only phone?

I’m guessing you could achieve that by dialing *#*#INFO#*#*, selecting “Phone information,” and then setting your desired Network Type.

An app from F-Droid named “Network” is a convenient way to open that screen immediately without having to dial the code.
